Shen Yan Xingsheng, the national master of Gushan, Fuzhou, was the Dharma heir of Zen Master Xuefeng Yicun, whose common surname was Li, was from Daliang (now Kaifeng, Henan). When I was young, I was sick of meat and fish, and I liked to hear about Zhong Fan. I was indifferent and often encountered magical things. One day at the age of twelve, suddenly there were several white qi hikes on the wall where they live. Zen Master Shenyan then wrote a poem on the wall: "The white qi will be changed quickly and we will not show off the evil and auspiciousness. We will definitely eliminate evil and return to the true view, and we will definitely be able to transcend the ordinary and enter the holy land." After the title, the white qi disappeared immediately. When he was a teenager, Zen Master Shenyan had a serious illness and dreamed that a god gave him medicine and would be cured immediately after waking up. The second year after recovering from the illness, Zen Master Shenyan dreamed of a Buddhist monk telling him, "It's time to become a monk." So he went to Weizhou (now Qi County, Henan Province) to Bailu Mountain, Master Yigu's haircut, and later went to Songyue to receive the full precepts.
Zen Master Shenyan did not start with the heart of some people's practice, but only knew how to keep the precepts mechanically, and he was very dissatisfied. He once told his classmates: "The ancient destiny said that after the White Four Karma, the whole body of precepts, concentration and wisdom are not the only way to be restrained!" So he wandered around and hugged the Zen gate. At the beginning, he just forced himself to remember some of the language teachings of great masters, indulged in the knowledge and understanding of words, but did not invent it in his own heart. Later, he studied under the influence of Zen Master Yicun of Xuefeng and began to embrace the seal of the heart.
One day, Zen Master Shenyan entered the room to visit Xuefeng. Zen Master Xuefeng knew that his fate was familiar, so he suddenly stood up, grabbed him, and shouted loudly: "What is it!"
Zen Master Shenyan immediately realized it and forgot his heart, and just raised his hand to sway.
Zen Master Xuefeng then asked again: "Is it wrong for me to do the truth?"
Zen Master Shenyan said: "What is the truth!"
Zen Master Xuefeng knew that it had been thorough, so he gave me a seal.
After Zen Master Xuefeng passed away, Zen Master Shenyan was invited by the Minshou Wang Shenzhi to create the Gushan Zen Garden and open the Dharma to attract the crowd. There was once a verse showing the public:
"It is still difficult to understand directly, so I will go back to credit. If you talk about Buddha and ancestors, you will be separated by the end of the world."
The national master once showed the public: "If it is a spiritual and sharp bottom, just stop walking. It is like a chao man, going thousands of miles away. What is the rescue? How about moving forward and backward? It is similar to intoxicating people. What is the breath of a monk? Since this is the case, how can you do things in the sect? The monks must be able to get it at first when they arrive in the chao, which is not easy. Brother, Gushan does not care about his words and tells you all the people. It does not take a word to remember, nor does it take a skill, nor does it blink, nor does it take a breath. Then, let's go. Monks, what do you say? To further introduce the Buddha's Dharma, to the Zen and Taoism, to the Buddha's higher affairs, to the next sentence of Nirvana. If you give this sentence, you will be a great delusion, called the mind of the highest mind, and have no negotiations with the brothers. How to give birth to the following? Please check it. What is this? To further ordinary and saint? Where is it the master of the Dharma body of Master Vairocana, where is there a canal? Where is there a canal? To square, radiant, narrow, long, and small? To try it, is there any thread-haired object to be covered? Is there still a little space? To Where can I copy and write to? The monks, what do you think of? Why don’t you just take it straight and learn it? And what are you talking about? If you don’t see it, you will tell me: ‘The meaning is a thief, the consciousness is a wave, and you will go and seek it without any stop.’ If you don’t have your own eyes, you will choose and distinguish, copy it in the paper, and write it in the booklet, and spend hundreds of millions of sentences. The dragon palace and the sea are hidden for a while, and they will all be others, and they will not do your own. It is also called the knowledge and learning based on knowledge, just like a jellyfish borrowing a thorn as an eye, without any free division. It is also like a blind person To distinguish colors, according to other words, one cannot distinguish the correct appearance of colors. If one learns the sutras, the law, there are people there. Therefore, Gushan often says: 'There are masters of the sutras, the law, the lawyers, the theory, the theory, the teacher; there are letters, numbers, sections and volumes; in front of the window during the day, there are lights and candles at night, and someone will pass on them. 'What is the Zen master's life? Is there any human being? Try to come out to see it." , a scholar asked, "How is the moment of revealing the truth?" said: "What is the way?" The monk asked again, and the master drank it.
late Tang Wang Shenzhi opens Xinjiang Fujian. When the Tang Dynasty fell, Taizu of Liang was named King Shenzhi as King of Min . One day, Wang Shenzhi was parading in Majiang and saw the glow of light on the top of Gushan Mountain, and the auspicious aura was rippling.He thought: There must be some treasure on this mountain, otherwise, where would the auspicious aura come from? He decided to go and explore it, and he didn't sit in a sedan chair or ride a horse. He picked up his robe and jacket and ran straight towards Gushan. Run and run, sweating profusely, and when the sunset is approaching, a big rock blocks the way. Wang Shenzhi was eager to see the treasure on the mountain, so he pulled out the sword from his waist and chopped it hard at the big stone. With a bang, the big stone was split in half and a door was opened. Wang Shenzhi walked over this door, which was later called "Stone Gate". The four big words "Renzhi Shimen" were engraved on the rock.
Wang Shenzhi walked past the stone gate, and the rays of light were right in front of him, with auspicious aura, which charmed Wang Shenzhi's eyes and could not open them for a moment. After a while, I calmed down and found that it was not a treasure, but an old monk sitting cross-legged on a rock to practice. Wang Shenzhi was disappointed, so he threw anger on the monk and repeatedly asked who the monk was? What to do on the rock? After asking three questions, the monk ignored the truth and still closed his eyes and practiced.
Wang Shenzhi became even more annoyed, so he showed that his identity was King Fujian and said, "Cundimension is King. Since you are so unreasonable and have no country, you shouldn't sit on my territory." When the monk heard Wang Shenzhi's four words "Cundimension is King", he saw him slowly leaving the stone and rising into the air and sitting there motionlessly. At this time, the King of Min was stunned and realized that the monk was a virtuous monk. He hurriedly bowed down and apologized, and expressed his willingness to worship the elders as his teacher. He respectfully invited him to visit the mortal land again, and still sat on the original throne and received a great gift from his disciples. When the monk heard this, he slowly fell from the air and sat in his original position. This stone is the current "National Teacher Rock". The monk was either someone else, or Abbot Shenyan. After
sat down, he helped King Fujian to accept it as his apprentice. Wang Shenzhi usually understands the Buddhist scriptures and asks Master Shenyan to preach to him. He listens to Master's preaching with all his heart. When he encounters something he doesn't understand, he needs to ask what he wants to do. The master and apprentice had questions and answers, and the conversation was very consistent. When I first talked about my enthusiasm, the spring water from Lingyuan Cave flowed and the sound was noisy. He often interrupted the master and apprentice's talk about scriptures, which made Abbot Shen Yan dislike him. He suddenly shouted: "Damn!" The spring water in Lingyuan Cave immediately stopped flowing and turned to another place to flow. Today, although the cave is several feet deep, it is usually exhausted, so this place is conveniently named " Drinking Water Rock ". Song Dynasty Someone wrote this poem on the rock next to Lingyuan Cave:
Chongluo Fuling Locking Song Pass, and I saw the sound of a spring entering the seat; if I had not taught me to drink water over other mountains back then.
