Linhai Temple is located 9 kilometers from Xinqiaoxiang Highway in Xieqiao Village, Xieqiao Town, Haining City. Linhai Temple was first built in the Southern Song Dynasty and was named Yingji Hou Temple.

In order to commemorate the heroic deeds of Zhang Liu, a commoner of the locals (now Xiaoshan), who sacrificed their lives to rescue the fallen people, the local people spontaneously donated money to build temples so that future generations can remember and worship them.

During the Xianchun period of the Song Dynasty (1265-1274), the title of "Meritorious Seawall". In the old days, there were two temples in the Yingji Hou Temple (Linhai Temple). The front hall was dedicated to the Guansheng Emperor , and the back hall was dedicated to the gong Zhang Liu. There is a stage in front of the temple. Before and after the founding of the People's Republic of China, there are often performances of Haining Shadow Puppetry , especially on the first and fifteenth day of the lunar calendar. It was originally the day of worshiping Buddha and burning incense. In addition, the unique skills of shadow puppetry are flawless, making it very incense and lively.

In the 1950s, the temple buildings were completely demolished due to disrepair and dilapidated. In 2006, with the approval of the relevant departments of Haining City, the restoration and reconstruction were officially renamed "Linhai Temple".

In July 2007, the relevant departments of Jiaxing City approved Linhai Temple as a Buddhist open temple event venue in Haining City.
