Shuanglin Temple , formerly known as "Zhongdu Temple", is located in Qiaotou Village 6 kilometers southwest of Pingyao County, Shanxi Province. The age of the temple is to be tested. According to the existing "Aunt's Monument" in the fourth year of Dazhongxiangfu in the Northern Song Dynasty, Zhongdu Temple was founded in the second year of Wuping in the Northern Qi Dynasty and was later destroyed by war. It was renovated during the Song Dynasty and renamed the "Shuanglin Temple" in Buddhist scriptures. But by the end of the Yuan Dynasty, it had reached the point where "the palaces and the halls and corridors were slumped". Therefore, it was rebuilt during the Ming Jingtai , Tianshun , Hongzhi , Zhengde , Jiajing and Wanli . It was renovated many times during the Daoguang and Xuantong periods of the Qing Dynasty. Most of the existing buildings were built in the Ming Dynasty, and most of the statues were works of the Ming Dynasty. Shuanglin Temple faces north and south, and its main buildings include the mountain gate, the Heavenly King Hall, the Sakyamuni Hall, the Great Hall, and the Buddha Mother Hall. The east and west sides include the Arhat Hall, the Martial Saint Hall, the Ksitigarbha Hall, the Land Hall, the Thousand Buddha Hall, the Bodhisattva Hall, etc.

Ten temples of all sizes and sizes are covered with statues. There are 2052 colored sculptures in existence, and 1566 intact ones. Most of the colored sculptures in the Ming Dynasty were redecorated in the Qing Dynasty. It has both shape and spirit, has a high realistic style, and has a high artistic value. It is the best among color sculptures in the Ming Dynasty in my country and is known as the "treasure of oriental color sculpture art."

In 1997, Shuanglin Temple was listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site as an important part of Pingyao Ancient City .

Weituo Bodhisattva

This , which was shaped in the Ming Dynasty, is 1.6 meters high and stands in a conspicuous place in the Thousand Buddha Hall. He was wearing armor, holding an vajra in his left hand, clenched his fist with his right hand, held his head and chest up, and stood in a T-step, which was very majestic. His brows were furrowed and his eyes glared ahead, showing a righteous and strict personality, with a kind of Confucian general style.

This Weituo image twisted its upper body to the right and raised its left arm, as if it had discovered an illegal person, and was about to raise its arms and yell and hit it. This twisting body and raising arms creates a continuous movement, giving people a sense of spirituality.

The most exciting thing about

is the opposite relationship between his eyes and his head. According to the natural physiological movements of a person, the eyes must also look in which direction the head turns. The head of Wei Tuo turned to the right and his eyes looked to the left, which reflected a kind of majesty and a hint of contempt, which was truly a spiritual pen. Twisting your body, shaking your arms, turning your head, and looking sideways, these four lifelike movements form a dynamic structure, making the image of Weituo move without moving.

This statue of Weituo Bodhisattva was once praised by experts and scholars as the crown of Weituo in the country, The first Chinese temple Weituo Bodhisattva ! And it was included in the "Chinese Art Collection".
