Once upon a time there was a king named Duanzheng. He was hardworking and loved the people, fair and selfless. The people respected him very much. He would ask him to make any disputes. He also respected his judgment very much and never expressed doubts.
There is a poor man in this country named Tan Niji. His family is very poor, and he only has a few acres of thin fields to barely make a living. He often eats the whole meal but doesn’t have the last meal. No matter winter or summer, there are only a few pieces of ragged clothes to avoid shame.
This year, it is the harvest season again. Sandaliji finally harvested a little bit of rice in the field, but how can I thresh the rice in the field and collect it? His family was too poor and didn't even have a cow. He had no choice but to go to his old friend's house in the same village to borrow cows.
The old friend is very loyal and lent the cow to him without saying a word. After all, for so many years, Tan Niji has to come to borrow several times every year. My old friend is used to it. If you can, please help.
After the battle, Tan Niji cleaned up the cow, fed the fodder and sent it back. When he arrived at his old friend's house, it was almost dark. Seeing that his old friend was busy, he thought that the rice he had just prepared at home had not been collected, so he didn't say hello to him. He tied the cattle to a tree not far outside the door and hurried home.
My old friend saw him leading the cow, but he didn't hear Tan Niji say he should return it. He thought he had to use it before the game was over, so he didn't have the nerve to take the cow back to his home.
As a result, after it became dark, the cow was left there without anyone caring about it. Passersby took the cow away when they saw it.
A few days later, the owner of the cow was going to use the cow, so he found Tan Niji and asked for the cow. Tan Niji was confused. He had obviously returned the cow? One side insisted that he had returned, while the other side insisted that he had not seen the cow, and the two started arguing. Seeing that I couldn't find my old friend, I was anxious, so I grabbed him and went to see Wang Pingli.
The two walked along the road and encountered a big river and blocked their way.
The two of them didn't know how to cross the river, so they wanted to ask someone.
looked around and saw a person in the river not far from them. The man was holding a tool in his left hand and his clothes in his right hand, and an axe in his mouth. He stood in the water and didn't know what he was doing.
Tan Niji shouted to the man: "Brother, how can I cross the river?"
The man opened his mouth and wanted to answer, but he forgot to hold an axe in his mouth. As soon as he opened his mouth, the axe fell into the water. Just as a wave rushed over, the axe disappeared.
The man was very angry and complained about Tan Niji because he lost his axe because he spoke to him. He had to pay for Tan Niji. Where can Tan Niji get money to pay? Besides, he didn't think he was intentional and couldn't blame him completely, so he discussed with him that the three of them would go to see the king together and let the king make a decision.
The man agreed and led the two across the river, and the three of them went to meet the king together.
When he arrived at the king, the cow owner first stepped forward to complain: "Tan Niji borrowed my cow and refused to return it to me."
King asked Tan Niji: "Why did you borrow the cow and didn't repay it?"
Tan Niji replied: "I borrowed his cow and sent it back after the farm. I tied it to the big tree in front of his house. I just saw that he was too busy, so I didn't explain it to him."
King asked the cow owner: "Is that true?"
The cow owner replied: "Yes, I saw him leading the cow here!"
The king began to pronounce the verdict: "You both are wrong in this matter. When you return the cow, you should say it; and since you see it, you should lead the cow in.Let's do this, judge: Tan Niji still cuts his tongue without saying a word; the owner of the cow sees it and does not care about it. "
The two were frightened, and the owner of the cow hurriedly said, "I don't want it anymore, please don't pluck my eyes and cut his tongue, let's reconcile ourselves!" The king said, "Okay, you can reconcile, the case is over. Next. ”
The person who threw the axe came forward and returned: “This person lost my axe. ”
The king asked Tan Niji: “Why is it you again? "
Tan Niji hurriedly said: "I asked him, and the axe he held in his mouth fell into the water when he answered. I didn't mean it. "
The king understood the whole story and began to pronounce the verdict: "He asked you what he asked you to throw away your axe, and he was sentenced to cut off his tongue. You were also wrong. You shouldn't hold something with your mouth, and you were sentenced to knock off your front teeth. "
After hearing this, the man realized his mistake and the two reconciled.
