Shuzhou (now Anqing, Anhui) Datong Zen Master Tuzishan, Cuiwei Wuxue's Dharma heir, his secular surname is Liu, and he is from Huaining, one of our province. When he was young, Zen Master Yiluo Xiabao Tangman became a monk. He initially practiced the Anpa method of guarding the mind (i.e., breathing view), and then studied the Avatamsaka Sutra and made great inventions about the principles of the sea of nature. Later, he heard that Zen Master Cuiwei Wuxue preached the Dharma and showed it to the public, so he went to attend the ceremony.
Chuli Juewei Zen Master Cuiwei asked, "What have you gained after seeing Damo for the first time?"
Zen Master Cuiwei said, "What have you gained when you see me now?"
Zen Master Datong heard this and suddenly realized the secret meaning, so he stayed under the seat of Zen Master Cuiwei to continue studying.
One day, Zen Master Cuiwei was walking in the Dharma Hall, and there was no one around. When Zen Master Datong saw it, he went forward to salute and asked, "How can the monk show him the secret order from the West?"
Zen Master Cuiwei stopped, remained silent, and stood for a while.
The Zen Master Datong did not understand his purpose, and said, "I beg for the teacher to give me a message."
The Zen Master Cuiwei scolded, "I want the second scoop of bad water , which (yeah)?"
The Zen Master Datong stood up to thank him.
Zen Master Cuiwei said, "Don't gain a foothold here, which means not to have any attachments."
Zen Master Datong said, "The root seedlings will grow at the right time."
After Master Datong realized the truth, he once allowed to travel around and practice Zen virtues. Later, he returned to his hometown, hid in Zishan, and lived in the fortification of the throne for more than thirty years. People at that time called the Monk of the Tengzi.
Monkey Toutien once met Zen Master Zhaozhou.
One day, the monk Zhaozhou arrived in Tongcheng County, and the monk Touzi also came out of the mountain. He met on the way, but did not know each other. The monk Zhaozhou asked the locals privately and realized that it was the monk Touti, so he came forward and asked, "Why is the master of Touti Mountain?" The monk Touti said, "I beg for one for tea and salt." The monk Zhaozhou then arrived at the temple first. Monk Touzi then came back with a bottle of oil. The monk Zhaozhou said, "I have been watching the stakes for a long time, and when I arrive, I will only see an oil seller." The monk Toutii said, "You only see the stakes for an oil seller, and I don't know the stakes." The monk Zhaozhou asked, "What is Toutique?" The monk Toutique said, "Oil! Oil!" The monk Zhaozhou asked again, "What should I do when I die?" The monk Toutique said, "Don't go at night, the monk Toutique must arrive." The monk Zhaozhou said, "I am a long time ago, and I am a new man."
Hou Bai and Hou Hei were two superb robbers in ancient China. One was specialized in robbery during the day and the other was specialized in robbing at night. "I'm a long time ago, and I'm a little bit darker." This sentence means that both sides of life and death, light and dark must be broken.
Monkey Tuzi has become famous all over the world since then, and the monks of Yunshui rushed to join in.
A monk asked the sect: "The scholar has a question, and the monk answered; suddenly asked thousands of questions, what should the monk do?"
"Like a chicken holding an egg."
The monk asked again: "I am the only one in the world, so what is me?"
The sect said: "What is the sin of pushing down this old Hu with one hand?"
"Since even 'Old Hu' has been pushed down, who is the master of the monks?" the monk asked.
Tuzi said, "My teacher, facing him, you can't see his head, you follow him from behind, and you can't see his tail."
The monk asked again, "Where is the Buddha's body when the Buddha statue has not been cast yet?"
Zen Master Tuzi: "You should not do it!"
The monk did not understand the meaning of Zen Master "don't do it". He asked, "Then the Buddha's body must appear, so what should I do?"
"You said this 'present', and I asked you, what is that 'detect'?"
The life form pursued by Zen Buddhism is fundamentally to return to the original state of no hiddenness and no appearance.
Zen Master Datong has lived in Touzi Mountain for more than 30 years. Those who ask for help often fill the room with their doors and stimulate and enlighten many people. At the end of the Tang Dynasty, there were many riots in the Tuzishan area. A madman once threatened the Zen master with a knife and asked, "What are you doing here?" The Zen master was calm and said to him, so that the leader of the rioters knelt on his knees and kowtowed, took off his clothes and gave them to him. In the fourth year of Qianhua in the Later Liang Dynasty, Tuozi felt a little uncomfortable, and the monks in the temple were busy asking the Zen master for medicine. However, the Zen master calmly said to everyone: "Four major movements, gathering and dispersing, don't worry about it, I have my own arrangements." After saying that, he was silent.
The monk in Qianhua was in the fourth year of Qianhua (914), and Spring and Autumn 96. The imperial edict was given to Master Tzu Chi.
