Eastern Jin The eminent monk Huiyuan was the first to be reborn in the Western Pure Land. Huiyuan, whose surname is Jia, is annoying to Jin Yanmen Tower. He was studious since childhood. At the age of thirteen, he followed his uncle to study in Luoyang , Luoyang , and learn Confucian classics and the learning of Laozi and Zhuangzi. When he was twenty-one, he thought of going to seclusion from Fan Xuanzi, a scholar in the south. It was time for war, and the road was blocked and he did not travel.
At this time, the eminent monk Daoan built a temple in Hengshan to spread the Dharma. He was famous all over the world. He went to see him. When I heard Daoan tell the Sutra of the Prajna, I suddenly realized that Confucianism and Taoism are all chaff . From then on, converts to Buddhism and takes it as my responsibility to promote Buddhism. Daoan also valued him especially, believing that Buddhism will be better spread in Middle Earth because of him.
In the ninth year of Jianyuan, in 373 AD, Daoan was captured by Former Qin . Huiyuan had no choice but to go south and came to Mount Lu. He loved the quiet forests here, so he settled here. Xunyang Governor Huanyi is the east of Lushan Donglin Temple . From then on, Huiyuan lived in Lushan for more than 30 years.
Huiyuan's teacher Daoan was a master of Prajna . He created the original without a clan and used Wei and Jin metaphysics to explain Buddhist Prajna, which influenced future generations.
Prajna, the transliteration of Sanskrit Praiā, also known as "boruo", "boluo", etc., which is translated as "wisdom", "wisdom", "wisdom", "wisdom", "wisdom", "ming", etc. The full name is "Prajāpāramitā" or Prajāparamita, which means "wisdom", "brightness", "wonderfulness", etc., which is a special understanding of becoming a Buddha. This understanding regards all things in the world as the combination of causes and conditions, and believes that it has no fixed and unchanging self-nature, so its nature is empty. "Prajna" means "emptiness view".
Huiyuan learned from Tao'an and was also good at Prajna. When he was in Jingzhou, he refuted the saying that Daoheng held "no mind" according to his teacher's theory. After settling in Mount Lu, he felt that the Buddhist scriptures in the south were not prepared, so he visited many places and covered a wide range of things.
Later, Huiyuan began to believe in Maitreya Tushita Heaven Pure Land. He once gathered his disciples to vow in front of the statue of Amitabha Buddha in Yuntai Monastery, Lushan, wishing to be reborn in the Pure Land of Maitreya. The reason why Huiyuan did this is due to his thoughts on the three retributions. Huiyuan believes that there are three retributions of karma: one is the present retribution, the second is the retribution of retribution, and the third is the subsequent retribution. "There is a reward that good and evil begins in this body, and that is, the body that is received; those who are born with reward will receive it in the next life; those who are later reward may be born with two or three births, hundreds of births, and then they will receive it."
Huiyuan believes that people have three lives, even hundreds of births, and even hundreds of births, which is in line with their theory of immortality. He believes that the human body is composed of earth, fire, water and wind, and the body "because it is a divine house." Even if the body is destroyed, it is "harmless to God", and "God" will last forever between heaven and earth. Because God is immortal, God can be entrusted to his body. The origin of these two, three, and even thousands of lives.
Huiyuan deeply believes in the theory of immortality of the soul, so he is afraid of the retribution of life and death, so he makes a great wish to be reborn in the Pure Land of Maitreya.
In the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the belief in Maitreya Pure Land became increasingly fierce, and it had a great relationship with Huiyuan. Although Huiyuan has been away from Mount Lu for more than 30 years, he has frequent letters with the upper class, especially the nobles, and even dates with the emperor. He is indeed talented and even a proud poet like Xie Lingyun admires him very much. Xie Lingyun drilled a pond in front of Donglin Temple for Huiyuan to plant white lotus, which is the origin of Lotus Sect .
Huiyuan has many subordinates, and famous people include Huiji, who became a monk with him, as well as his disciples Huiguan, Sengji, Taozu, Tanyong, Sengche, etc.
