How can modern people maintain a pure heart in the noisy city? Is practicing in a temple called practicing? Life is practice everywhere, and life is a temple everywhere. As long as we can reflect on ourselves at all times and clear the dust of our minds, that is Buddhism.
There is a devout Buddhist believer who picks flowers from his own garden every day to the temple to offer Buddha. One day, when he was sending flowers to the Buddhist temple, he happened to meet Zen Master Wude coming out of the Dharma Hall. Zen Master Wude said very happily: "You come so devoutly to offer Buddha with incense flowers every day. According to the records of the scriptures, those who often offer incense flowers to the Buddha will receive the blessing of solemn appearance in the next life."
The believer replied very happily: "This is what I deserve. When you come to the temple to worship Buddha every day, you feel that your mind is as cool as it has been washed, but when you get home, your heart is upset. How can we, a housewife, maintain a pure and pure heart in the hustle and bustle city?"
Zen Master Wude asked back: "You offer Buddha with flowers, I believe you always have some common sense about flowers and plants. I ask you now, how do you keep flowers fresh?"
The believer replied: "The way to keep flowers fresh is to keep flowers fresh every day Change the water, and cut off a piece of the pedicel when changing the water. Because one end of the pedicel is prone to rot in the water, the water is not easy to absorb after it is decayed, and it will easily wither!"
Zen Master Wude said: "Maintain a pure and pure heart, the same is true. Our living environment is like water in a bottle, and we are flowers. Only by constantly purifying our body and mind, changing our temperament, and constantly repenting, reviewing, and improving bad habits and shortcomings can we continuously absorb the food of nature."
After hearing this, the believer gave a happy greeting and said, "Thank you for your teachings. I hope you will have the opportunity to get close to the Zen master in the future, live a life of a Zen master in a temple, and enjoy the tranquility of the morning bell and evening drums and Bodhi Sanskrit."
Zen Master Wude said, "Your breath is the sing of the Brahma, your pulse is the bell and drum, your body is the temple, your ears are Bodhi, and there is no place to be tranquility, so why wait for the opportunity to live in the temple?"
