" The Sutra of Vimalakirti " is a Buddhist Mahayana sutra, also known as the "Incredible Liberation Sutra", also known as the " Vimalakirti " or the "Pure Name Sutra" ( Vimalakirti is also known as the Pure Name Layman), and is a classic work of Vimalakirti stupa.
The origin of the lay Buddhist Vimalakirti preaching to the public (that is, the beginning of the Vimalakirti Sutra), which is Buddha When he was preaching in Anluo Shuyuan, Vimalakirti, who was an elder and a lay Buddhist, deliberately said that he would not get sick. Logically speaking, Vimalakirti has reached the realm of a Bodhisattva and is already a saint who has escaped from the three realms of life, death, suffering, and reincarnation, and will not get sick again.
Why does Vimalakirti say he is at home? This is because "for convenience, you will have illness." In layman's mind, illness is a temporary measure and opportunity for Mr. Vimalakirti to deliberately arrange his statement.
Vimalakirti said that the judging of the home is the core of the "Vimalakirti Sutra". Each piece is developed in this way, and the "incredible" principles are also expressed at this time. Therefore, "Vimala" has also become an allusion, which refers to a Buddhist disciple who is sick.
Buddhist disciples are also going to get sick, not to mention the vast majority of people. Since they are sick, how can they be cured? Therefore, Vimalakirti began to speak his own way.
Vimalakirti called ordinary people's disease, Hinayana disease, Bodhisattva disease These three diseases are "sentient beings' diseases", sentient beings "are suffering and distress, and are gathered by many diseases". Vimalakirti's preaching first is to eliminate sentient beings' diseases, thereby leading to what is the "eternal Dharma" of sentient beings. It is natural.
Sickness of sentient beings, that is, suffering of sentient beings. Buddhism " Eight Suffering " is the root of "sickness of sentient beings".
The body of a person is "hard" from the beginning of birth, so the "eight sufferings" of Buddhism are:
birth is suffering, and development in the mother's fetus is suffering, and the child is suffering, and the child is suffering;
old age is suffering, and unable to walk and do things when old, and being disgusted by others is suffering;
sickness is suffering, and being sick is suffering;
death is suffering, and no one can escape death is suffering;
love separation is suffering, and being separated from the person who loves each other is suffering;
hate meeting with enemies and hate is suffering;
meets with people who hate it is suffering;
seeking but not being able to satisfy your wish is suffering;
five aggregates are blazing and suffering, and the body, feelings, thoughts, creation, and consciousness are all the sources of suffering.
All beings cannot escape these eight sufferings in their entire lives. They begin with the existence of a "physical body" (the human body), but the physical body developed by the father's sperm and mother's blood is the source of pain and the root of the "self-attachment" of sentient beings. Therefore, Vimalakirti shows that his body is sick with great compassion, and wants to say that "sickness of sentient beings" is actually the principle of "suffering of sentient beings".
Only by eliminating these "eight sufferings" can sentient beings obtain eternal Dharma. Therefore, the "Vimalakirti Sutra" is a classic work to relieve the sufferings of sentient beings.
