In life, we use a respectful title that represents respect for people with high status, even in terms of titles.

For example, the ancients called educated people "Mr.", and those with higher social status than themselves called "Adults". Even ordinary people will be represented by "you".

Especially in some organizations, the leader of each organization has a unique name, and almost rarely directly call his name. In ancient times, this was called "tagging".

For example, Li Shimin . People at that time could only call him the emperor. Even in later generations, the orthodox officials still called him Tang Taizong .

Just like the current general manager of the company, there are almost no employees who directly call his name.

This is the question. After Sakyamuni became enlightened and became a Buddha, how should his family call him?

We know that after Shakyamuni founded Buddhism, his internal status was extremely supreme. His disciples all respected him as Buddha, World Honored One, etc., and his original name Gautama Siddhartha was basically no longer mentioned.

So, how should his family, including his father, wife, and children, call him?

And before Shakyamuni became a monk, he was originally the prince of Kapilava . His father was Suddhāng , his wife was Yashudra, his son was Rahula , and even his cousin was later Venerable Ananda .

What will these relatives call each other before and after Sakyamuni became a Buddha?

First of all, let’s talk about my father Suddha King.

Before becoming a monk, King Suddha was his prince as the king. At this time, Sakyamuni must have called him by the father and the like.

After Shakyamuni became a Buddha, he actually had a balanced meaning. He not only showed his identity as Buddha , but also deliberately pointed out his father's identity, which was to call him "Father Suddha". This title is reflected in the "Buddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Suddha Sud

On the other hand, for the former son and the Buddha today, King Sudhodah no longer calls him his name, but replaces him with Buddha and Buddha. This does not lose respect, but it does not affect the name between father and son.

Even if you are as noble as the Buddha, your respect for your father is similar to that of us orientals and modern people.

From this we can see that the two words filial piety are similar, whether in ancient and modern times, in China or abroad, or in different beliefs.

Let’s talk about his wife Yeshudra:

As the closest person in Sakyamuni’s secular world, after Sakyamuni became a Buddha, the two never met again, so there was no such thing as calling him.

Before Sakyamuni became a monk, Yeshudra always called him "prince" and this title is still a respectful word, reflecting the honor of husband's power, and it seems to be similar to the Eastern women's name "husband". After becoming a Buddha, the wife in Sakyamuni's mouth became "Yasudra."

This inevitably makes us associate. Did he use this to call his wife before he became a monk?

Let’s talk about his son Rahula:

When Shakyamuni became a monk and practiced, Rahula was just born and could not speak. It was impossible for them to communicate between father and son in the secular world.

But later, the seven-year-old Rahula also became a monk and followed Sakyamuni to practice. He was also severely scolded and disciplined. He has always called Sakyamuni "Buddha" or "World-Honored One".

From this perspective, there is more relationship between Rahula and Shakyamuni, and the relationship between father and son is relatively weak.

In Sakyamuni's mouth, the son is the title "Rahula". It is no different from the titles of other disciples, and it also reflects the Buddhist view of equality.

Finally, talk about Ananda .

Ananda is Siddhartha's cousin in the secular world. Before the two became monks, the name of brothers must be doubted.

But later Ananda followed Sakyamuni around and practiced diligently and gained the status of Venerable Ananda. In his former cousin, he had only had honorific titles such as "Buddha", "Buddha", and "World-Honored One", and there were no more common names such as brothers.

, and Sakyamuni called Ananda, and he has always used Ananda's common name, without obvious changes.

This gives people a reminder from another perspective, that is, the various "love parts" in the world, and only the love between father and son is the most difficult to give up. Even though he is as noble as the Buddha and as enlightened as Sakyamuni, he still maintains the respect of father and son to King Suddha.
