Travel Nanhai Zen Temple is my long-term wish, and it finally came to my journey last year on the winter solstice.
Nanhai Zen Temple located in city, Runan County, is also known as Xiaonanhai. It was built during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. It is known in history as "one of the eight scenic spots of Caizhou ". In 1994, Master Mingcheng, the host of Guanyin Zen Temple in Daxiangshan, Taipei, invested 150 million yuan to rebuild this temple.
Just got off the bus, the archway-style north gate, which is 32 meters high and 50 meters wide, stands in front of you. The four large characters of Nanhai Zen Temple are carved directly above, and you must look up and see. When you see the gate, you will know the courage and charm of Asia's No. 1 temple.
Entering the door, the twelve granite archways are caught in the eye. From north to south, it is arranged in sequence with the design concepts of 12 Buddhist marriages, 12 Bodhisattvas, 12 Dharma protectors, and 12 Earthly Branches, becoming a classic in Asian temple architecture.
Follow the road next to the 12th Archway. Although it is winter, the green pines and cypresses on both sides of the road are still full of vitality and stubborn. When you reach the end, turn east, you will arrive at the Baigong Shangren Relic Tower Courtyard, the pavilions and steles, which are arranged in an orderly manner and are properly arranged, integrating ancient Chinese architectural art with Southeast Asian architectural art style, majestic and elegant.
I am not a Buddhist believer and do not know much about the meaning of many sculptures. However, I love ancient architectural art and advocate the Buddhist compassion and kindness of others. Therefore, I have not diminished my travels. I look at them carefully and take photos as a souvenir.
Leave the relic pagoda courtyard and walk southward, you will arrive at the palace building area. Looking around, the halls are tall and majestic, with flying eaves and flying in the air, hooks are connected to each other, with a rigorous layout and magnificent momentum. Although it does not have the history of Luoyang White Horse Temple and Songshan Shaolin Temple, its scale and momentum are far above White Horse Temple and Shaolin Temple.
The flower beds and lawns on both sides of the road have become quiet, and there is no longer the scene of scrambling for prosperity, seeking credit, and not giving in to each other. Winter is a great time to visit famous temples. At this time, the world is pale and yellow, quiet and elegant, and indifferent to fame and fortune. Isn’t this the Buddhist idea?
What are the eaves in the lush parts of the verdant place, and a few temple bells are faintly heard. Unconsciously, I came to the square in front of the Main Hall. From a distance, the 36-meter-high hall is a three-story double-eaved hall with a base of 2 meters. The plane is a square with a side length of 80 meters, and the building area reaches 6,400 square meters, far exceeding the architectural scale of the Palace Museum and the Dacheng Hall of Confucius Mansion in Qufu.
near, the granite 500 arhats carved on the base of the Main Hall gather the essence of more than 20 Chinese arhat hall , gathering outstanding designers and sculptural craftsmen, integrating Chinese and Western styles, combining ancient and modern times, carefully sculpting, with different styles.
climbed up the stairs and came to the hall corridor. There were more than a dozen huge pillars, carved and sculpted, with dragon horns and dragon whiskers, which were realistic and lifelike, and wanted to fly into the sky. I admire in my heart: How superb the skills of sculpture craftsmen are! The brilliant and brilliant history was created by the working people with clever hearts and hands.
Walk into the hall, carved beams and painted roads, magnificent, stormy cigarettes, and melodious sounds of Sanskrit. In the middle is a bronze sculpture of gilded Buddha statue 17 meters high and weighing 72 tons. It is tall and majestic, showing kindness and ease, making people both awe and close. I don’t believe in Buddhism, but I still bowed three times to the Buddha who saved the world and showed my respect.
In front of the Buddha, I was full of thoughts: Religion is culture and philosophy. Human beings live in harmony because of religion, and human beings also fight against each other because of religion. Historically, Xuanzang traveled westward, Jianzhen traveled eastward, spreading Buddhism, exchanging culture, and fusion of civilization. Isn’t Master Mingcheng today like the Xuanzang and the eminent monk Jianzhen? From the treasure island to the mainland, we have brought huge sums of money to build temples and spread Buddhism. We have good intentions and can learn from heaven and earth. Buddhism serves as a bridge, and the two sides of the Taiwan Strait often come and go, eliminating estrangements, and will the days when the two places are unified, connected by blood?
"A peaceful heart and a peaceful world, a broad mind and a broad mind." When walking out of the Nanhai Zen Temple, he was still savoring the words of Elder Ming Cheng.
