Master Dayu’s surname is Li, and his name is Li Shubei. He is from Wuhan. His family background is quite extraordinary. He has studied abroad and later entered politics. He participated in the Revolution of 1911 as a provincial representative of Hubei Province and played an important role in overthrowing the Qing Dynasty. After the dynasty,
once entered the political arena of the Beiyang era. He served as the deputy minister of the Ministry of Education in the Beiyang era. In his childhood, he witnessed the country's disasters and the people's hardship in the late Qing Dynasty. His growth period also coincided with the alternating struggle between old and new ideas. Become a disciple of Taixu and escape into Buddhism

There is a story when he was studying as a monk. It is said that after he became a monk, his wife asked someone to find him, and then he actually wrote a letter to his wife asking her to become a monk too. After his wife saw his letter, she also came He was ordained and became a nun in Nanputuo Mountain.
After converting to Taixu, he saw the hardship of the people and the warlords at that time, and wanted to join the world to save the common people. His compassion was too heavy, so in order to become enlightened as soon as possible, he made a great determination to practice Panzhou Samadhi at Donglin Temple in Lushan Mountain. After seven days of hard practice, he finally felt Samantabhadra come to see him and give him the initiation himself, and Tell him that there is another method in the Tripitaka, which is very convenient and can be practiced according to the heart center. It can make up for the shortcomings of Zen and Pure Land Buddhism, and re-propaganda Tantric Buddhism.
After the Great Fool attained enlightenment in Mount Lu, he diligently practiced the Dharma taught by Samantabhadra. After a few months, he completed the practice and came down the mountain. After he came down from the mountain, he showed some magical power because of the need to spread the Dharma. From then on, he became famous and tens of thousands of people took refuge in him. There were hundreds of disciples who entered the world, and among them there were about dozens of people who could see their own minds.
At this time, some warlords and some people with ulterior motives noticed Dayu’s extraordinary powers, and began to harbor evil intentions. Many warlords I want to invite Dayu to his own camp and let Master Dayu make suggestions for annexing other warlords. And there are still some people who take refuge in the Great Fool and do not really want to seek the truth or liberation. They just seek supernatural powers, fame and fortune.
Dayu was well aware of these two shortcomings. One night, he quietly disappeared alone. The next morning, the warlords and many disciples were very surprised to see Dayu missing. It is said that before Dayu left, he asked layman Wang Xianglu to continue teaching the Dharma on his behalf and explain riddles to the public.
Although Dayu passed away quietly, the heart center caused by Dayu still caused quite a stir in various parts of the South at that time, in the early 1920s, and had a great influence. Even the two great masters at that time, Taixu and Yinguang, responded to Dayu's incident to some extent. Because Taixu belongs to the reformist school, Taixu wants to reform modern Buddhism, and Yinguang belongs to the conservative school. Master Yinguang and Taixu have always had different views. Therefore, because Yinguang has the most intense attitude towards Dayu, Yinguang believes that Dayu is the master Talking about magical powers and showing off magical powers are sensational, so Master Yin Guang is very disgusted with the promotion of the heart-centered method.
And Taixu also tactfully reminded his disciples not to show off their magical powers too much, as this would be of no benefit to their own practice.But after Dayu disappeared, Master Taixu said nothing. However, Master Dayu has not responded to the accusations of the two great virtues. After
quietly retired, he arrived in Chengdu.
After Dayu escaped, he quietly came to Chengdu and lived in seclusion in the home of a disciple named Liu Yaxiu. He lived in this disciple's home for many years. This can be confirmed by Nan Huaijin and many lay people in Chengdu at that time. Nan Huaijin and his master both visited Dayu at the house of Liu, and Nan Huaijin even had a heated argument with Dayu.
Furthermore, later Mr. Yuan Yin and Mr. Yuan Yin's younger brother Xu Hengzhi also mentioned many times that their master came to Chengdu after retiring.
He ran away again in his later years, leaving behind traces in the south.
In the 1950s, Dayu left Liu Yaxiu's home again. It is said that when he left, he left a poem to his disciples. You can show this poem to everyone.
