The park is a great place to take portraits. There are many interesting and vibrant scenery inside. Not only that, but you can capture some great footage at any time of the day. Below, I’ll show you 5 simple photography tips you can try out in the park when you have the time.

: Backlighting people

The first tip is to backlight your subject. Place the model in the sunlight cast by the trees above.

Compare this to an image under direct sunlight.

2: reflector bump

has the model standing on the shady side of a tree. The only problem is that sunlight bounces off the ground and creates a slight "underglow".

To solve this problem, a white reflector was used and held up to reflect the light back onto her face. This creates a very pleasing and even light, perfect for portraits.

3: Shooting in light and dark places

This concept is called "open shadows". You'll notice that one side is shaded, in this case, by trees, while the other side is open to the sky.

This essentially creates a giant soft directional light. You can add accent pieces or simply shoot. Either way, the light makes for great shots.

4: Compressed Scenes

Utilize the zoom lens to squeeze the foreground and background together to really focus on your subject.

She then framed her in front of a dark area in the woods next to other backlit trees and took these great photos showing off her dancing skills.

5: Find the brightest spot

This is one of my favorite framing elements because it puts your subject where it gets the most attention in the image.

In this case, the brightest part of the frame is the opening of the trees in the background. See what the difference is.
