Hangzhou, known as the "paragraph on earth", has three world cultural heritages: Liangzhu , West Lake , and Grand Canal . The story of Hangzhou is endless, and it cannot be told.

Do you know who was the first photographer to raise his camera to take pictures in Hangzhou? He first pointed the lens at those places in Hangzhou? After experiencing disasters, Lingyin Temple was rebuilt in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. Which set of photos witnessed the great love of Sheng Xuanhuai, the "father of business" in modern times? "Climbing the dam and crossing the pond" to go to Xixing. Even old people in Hangzhou have only heard of it. What kind of moment did American photographer Gan Bo leave us?

On November 11, 2022, in Liangzhu, a holy land of 5,000-year-old civilization in China, the first lecture of "Liangzhu Knowledge League and Thought Flowing Seat" in 2022, photographer Zhang Youguo and writer Bao Xiaohong jointly gave a lecture: 179 old photos awaken the old dream in Hangzhou. The sharing content comes from the "Lake Light and Mountain Shadows Reflecting Qiantang" series in Hangzhou. The photo shoot of photographers in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China is more than a hundred years ago. It awakens generations of people's common memory of the era of this city. This is a dialogue between the soul and history.

Let culture speak "talk", let the images open their eyes to "see". The "Liangzhu Zhilian·Thought Flowing Seat" event is sponsored by Liangzhu Street Office and Yuhang District Zhilian Association, co-organized by Yuhang District Federation of Literary and Art Circles and Yuhang District Federation of Overseas Chinese, hosted by the Liangzhu Branch of Yuhang District Zhilian Association, Yuhang District Writers Association, and Liangzhu Street Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and co-organized by Zhao Yanhua, member studio of Yuhang District CPPCC and Poetry Space. The event was chaired by Zhang Hailong, chairman of the Yuhang District Writers Association.

"There was no camera in ancient times, and the scenery was all in the text. The poet Liu Yong's era gave us nearly a thousand years today, but photography was introduced to Hangzhou and China, which was only 100 years. When we look at Hangzhou with images, we may have many dimensions to observe the city." At the scene, Zhang Hailong introduced this.

"A yellowed old photo is a microcosm of an era. This book contains 179 precious old photos, and the shooting time is concentrated in the sixty years from 1859 to 1919." Zhang Youguo, the author of the book and the chairman of the Hangzhou Photographers Association, said, "Look at reading and emphasize stories. The book is divided into seven chapters, using photos to interpret the vicissitudes of Hangzhou in the past century and tells the historical story of early photography in Hangzhou."

This book records Hangzhou more than a hundred years ago under the lens of early photographers. It has the beautiful scenery of West Lake, urban life in the urban area, merchant ships on the canal, Taoist temples in the mountains, sailboats on the Qiantang River... Through these photos and stories, feel the changes in Hangzhou, and have a clear, full and vivid understanding of the ancient culture. "The historical value and artistic value of old photos can awaken generations of different memories of the city's eras." The author Bao Xiaohong said, "The historical scenery is not always light and beautiful. The stories behind the photos are worth searching, exploring, and thinking about."

Zhang Youguo Zhejiang Photographers Association Vice Chairman, Hangzhou Photographers Association, Member of China Photographers Association, and Member of China News Photography Society. He has been engaged in old photos collection and research for a long time. Plan and organize large-scale old photo original exhibitions such as "Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Victory of the Anti-Japanese War" and "Hangzhou Photography Historical Materials Exhibition". The collection directions are early images in Hangzhou, Chinese Grand Canal images and Chinese female soldiers.

Regarding these old photos, he said, "I started collecting photos in 2012. There is one photo that I feel deeply. When Taiping Heavenly Kingdom , Liuhe Tower was burned down, leaving only a 'corn cob'. It was shocking after watching it. As people from Hangzhou, we would feel very desolate. Since then, we have a deeper understanding of the images. Photos after 1860 mostly reflect the lives of the Chinese people. At that time, our country was relatively backward, and there were suffering, disasters, and wars behind the photos. When we see these old photos, we feel like we were back in the past. Back 100 years ago, we talked and communicated with that era. An old photographer said that if I collect old photos, I live a hundred years more than others."

Bao Xiaohong, the speaker of

, also appeared in his opinion - "In the process of writing, we encountered some difficulties. Some photos did not have time. Some had locations but no authors. Some only had two words in Hangzhou. I went to the Provincial Archives, Municipal Archives, Ancient Books Library, Zhejiang Library, and Hangzhou Library with Chairman Youguo to verify. We read lightly according to the requirements of the series and told stories. Photos are dead. We have to restore history and write the people in the photos alive, so we have spent a lot of effort. It took about half a year. During the writing process, I had more imaginations, his logic is stronger, and there were often collisions. In the end, both sides compromised because for the common goal, it was to write the story more exciting. After this book was released, everyone responded well. For me, I felt that all the hard work was worth it."
