Guangxi Miao villages. Most of them are far away from the hustle and bustle, relying on the mountains, maintaining the original style and production and lifestyle. Since ancient times, the Miao people have been seeking from nature, taking land as the foundation and seeking survival from the land. The staple food of the Miao people is rice, and farming mainly involves growing rice. They formed their own farming and harvesting methods according to time and place, expanded the food space for rice, and developed ways to utilize straw, straw poles, chaff and other scraps. They have mastered unique skills such as cutting and drying of grains, and raising fish in rice fields. They grabbed glutinous rice and ate it, and they had a bit of admiration for rice and rice. The Miao people regard rice farming as a place to settle down and work hard and never stop. Despite the harsh natural conditions and the huge price to plant rice, the amount of labor consumed is often far greater than the harvest, but there is no regret. Their hard work and sweat are full of attachment and cherishment for the land and rice creatures. Their persistence and perseverance inherit the unique rice farming culture and customs.
Yaojiao Village is an administrative village in Gandong Township, Rongshui Miao Autonomous County, Guangxi. It is a traditional farming village where ethnic minorities in Miao and Yao live together. It is a simple and natural western mountain village. Yaogao Village has a cultivated land area of 3,597 mu, of which 1,742 mu of paddy fields are located, 712 households and 3,142 people. The villagers mainly focus on growing rice. Since 2008, we have paid attention to this Miao village, aiming to collect images and data through on-site observation and research on production and lifestyles and folk customs through the history and current situation of the village, so as to retain intangible cultural heritage and leave human memories. Over the past few years, I have gone to Yaogao Village, more than 3260 kilometers away from Liuzhou html, once or twice a year, and I have been stationed in the village for about ten or twenty days or even more than thirty days at a time. Pay special attention to the villagers' traditional farming rice practices, from seedling cultivation, seedling extraction, plowing, raking, transplanting and field management, fish raising in rice fields, harvesting, drying, warehousing to rice processing and dietary methods, etc., comprehensive and complete records are made.
