A few days ago, GDU launched two modified lenses, GDU Armored RF 50mm F1.8 and GDU Armored RF 16mm F2.8, which belong to the Canon RF system. They were replaced with lens barrels made of 6061 aluminum alloy.
GDU Armored RF 50mm F1.8 and GDU Armored RF 16mm F2.8 are lenses modified based on Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM and RF 16mm f/2.8 STM respectively. They retain the optical structure of the original lens, the imaging quality and focus distance remain unchanged, but the shell is remade. According to GDU's official statement, the lens barrel is made of 6061 aluminum billet, and the size is significantly larger than the original lens size, so it is very sturdy. The light shield is made of metal and is made red by the anodizing process. The internal mask (the peripheral panel of the front lens) is cut from metal and fixed to the shell with bolts.
At the same time, the lens also removes the focus ring and operation buttons, but retains electronic contacts. On the Canon RF mount camera, the lens can be controlled automatically and aperture through the camera, and on the RED movie machine, the focus and aperture can be controlled through the body or RED CONTROL. Additionally, the lens comes with a GDU Vegan Leather zippered lens box.
After changing the shell, the prices of GDU Armored RF 50mm F1.8 and GDU Armored RF 16mm F2.8 soared sharply, with prices of US$499 and US$599 respectively.
