Wilt may be one of the most athletic people that size that has ever existed, 300 plus pounds at times and over 7 feet tall and he was a world class athlete from his teenage years into his 50's and considered competitive in a variety of sports outside of basketball. Decided to put this together to refresh our memories of some of the things that made Wilt such an all-around athlete

The athletic demands for players have increased compared to those players back then, with our guys being taller, stronger, quicker, and more athletic.

Also pro athletes played thru injuries more back then because it wasn’t a millions of dollars job and not playing meant losing their main source of income. They made more than the average worker, but it wasn’t uncommon to have a job during the off-season back then.

I'm sure some will contest this because it feels like an endless debate with many nuances, but I'm 99% sure from all testimony (coaches, Wilt himself, etc) Wilt's problems at the free throw line were mental first (and became physical IE bad form, secondary to that). His shooting touch itself was not the problem. He was a good fall away jump shooter, and as the footage of his hook shots and the testimony of his half court shots indicate, he could even hit ranged shots (though he never did these during games). So, to me, it's plausible he could sink the half court shots with frequency.

To be fair he played in a league he founded. In America had he wanted to really compete at the sport he would have played overseas where the good leagues are. Just the videos show show you that his form was really not great. IDK if that was standard when he got into it, but if you look at the really great hitters in the game past and present they look nothing like Wilt when he's hitting

I think a lot of basketball athletes would be at a disadvantage because of their size. Players like Westbrook or AI would excel at any sport, I imagine, but bigger guys like Wilt or LeBron or Shaq would be at a disadvantage in many sports given their size.

I try to dig to the bottom of every story, each has an origin. Usually it’s Wilt who exaggerates depending on the content and contex of the discussion. Usually his peers are aware many people won’t believe them. His peers don’t give me the impression that they exaggerate. Some fans do, but they aren’t the source they are often repeating 2nd and 3rd hand and I never include 2nd hand fan testimony in my videos only first hand accounts
