Because the United States has been modifying chip rules, the world's only manufacturer of EUV lithography machines ASML, cannot export EUV lithography machines to the mainland market.

Faced with the US blockade of the semiconductor chip field, many Chinese companies and scientific research institutions have begun to invest in the research and development of semiconductor chip fields, and lithography machines are the top priority.

Huawei Ren Zhengfei once said that we can design advanced chips, but there is currently no company in China that can produce high-end chips. Therefore, we do not lack chip research and development design, technology to manufacture high-end chips, and what we lack is advanced EUV lithography machines. It can be seen that the importance of lithography machines is self-evident.

In order to solve this problem, domestic scientific research institutions and high-tech enterprises led by Chinese Academy of Sciences have successively joined the team of independently developing domestic lithography machines. Faced with such a situation, ASML can't sit still, worried that it will be squeezed out of the Chinese market in the future. In the past two years, ASML has increased its layout in the Chinese market. And we have begun to export DUV lithography machines that are currently unrestricted to the mainland market on a large scale.

According to supply chain data, ASML has exported 23 lithography equipment to Chinese companies in the first year alone, built a new maintenance center, 3 development centers and 15 offices, and hired more than 1,500 Chinese employees.

It is obvious that in ASML, the Chinese market is particularly important because we are the world's largest semiconductor device consumer market. Driven by the domestic production of chips, more and more companies are joining chip manufacturing, and the demand for lithography machines is also increasing. ASML does not want to lose such a huge "fat meat".

However, what ASML did not expect was that even if it increased its layout in the Chinese market and continued to show goodwill to the mainland market, the problems it was worried about had not been eliminated and were happening.

Recently, the bidding data of lithography machines in the domestic market showed that there were a total of 28 lithography equipment in this bidding, Japanese manufacturers won 21 units, and Chinese manufacturers won 8 units. However, ASML, as a global lithography equipment giant, got a "duck egg".

Regarding the bidding results, foreign media said that ASML is no longer so important to Chinese companies. In this bidding, ASML was at a disadvantage, and it is actually not difficult to understand.

First of all, the domestic chip industry chain is accelerating the "de-beautification", and the ASML production line contains a large number of American technology and equipment. Once the US expands the scope of restrictions and restricts the free shipment of DUV lithography machines, after the pain of EUV lithography machines being restricted, Chinese companies will definitely exclude the "hidden dangers" that will be restricted in the future.

Although Japanese lithography manufacturers are far less powerful than ASML, Nikon and Canon are also old lithography manufacturers, and both have been developing in the mid- and low-end markets, occupying a certain market share, and their strength is obvious to all. Most importantly, after experiencing the Toshiba incident, , Japanese companies have reduced their dependence on US technology, and have a higher security factor than ASML.

Secondly, after the US cut off supply to Huawei, and modified the chip rules many times, in the view of Chinese companies, US technology and equipment are no longer so reliable. More and more Chinese companies have recognized the situation, understood the importance of mastering core technologies, abandoned the purpose of " comprador " and began to place controllable equipment in local production.

This time, China Enterprise won 7 lithography machines, which is the best proof. Although the number of winning bids is not large, compared with the previous situation of blindly relying on ASML, it has now taken a solid step.

Although ASML has been showing goodwill to domestic companies in recent years and has increased its layout in the domestic market, it cannot change our independent research and development, mastering core technologies and the localization of the chip industry chain.

Just as Chinese academician Ni Guangnan said, key technologies cannot be obtained or bought. There is no shortcut to the rise of domestic chips. Only by relying on our own strength to complete the comprehensive domestic replacement and master core technologies can we not be controlled by others.
