Fall accidents often occur in hospitals and other medical institutions. MintT, headquartered in Brussels, has developed an intelligent system with sensors, algorithms and AI that can issue alarms in real time and predict fall risks.

Falls occurs regularly in hospitals and healthcare facilities. The Brussels-based company MintT has developed a smart system with sensors, algorithms and artistic intelligence that generates alerts in real time and anticipates fall risks.

Medical Intelligence Founded in 2015, Technologies (MintT) consists of a team of motion analysis software experts, a nurse and a signal processing engineer. They now decide to focus their knowledge, skills and experience and gradually develop appropriate solutions to fall detection.

This technology does not require a camera, but uses a sensor that can independently transmit the shape and outlines in the room, like clusters of small dots. Algorithms and artificial intelligence analyze original information and can identify floors, walls, furniture, beds, etc. This technology can also detect movement, such as a person walking fast or slow, or may be falling. The entire system runs automatically, but it still needs professional supervision. The system can send out alerts in real time, allowing for help faster. On the one hand, this can improve the safety of patients or people living in medical institutions, the quality, confidence and autonomy of nursing , and on the other hand, it can also make medical staff more at ease. In addition, this allows us to learn from fall events so that we can prevent such events as much as possible in the future.

MintT hopes to enter Belgium and other countries outside France starting in 2023 and expand its business to home care.

Medical Intelligence Technologies (MintT) was founded in 2015 by a team of motion analysis software specialists, a nurse and a signal processing engineer. They have now decided to pool their knowledge, skills and experience to gradually design adequate solutions around fall detection.

There is no camera involved, but rather a sensor, which automatically transmits the contours of shapes in a room like a cloud of dots. The algorithms and artistic intelligence analyze that raw information and recognize the floor, walls, furniture, the bed, etc. Movement can also be detected, for instance of a person walking, fast or slow, or possibly falling. The whole system runs automatically, albeit under the supervision of professionals. The system gives an alert in real time, which makes it possible to intervene much more quickly. This significantly improves the safety, quality of care, confidence and autonomy of patients or residents on the one hand, and the peace of mind of healthcare personnel on the other. It also allows us to learn from fall incidents and, as such, to prevent them as much as possible in the future.

MintT is hoping to move into other countries than Belgium and France starting in 2023 and to expand its business into home nursesing.
