According to middleeasteye, NeomTech Digital is a subsidiary of Neom, a Saudi megacity with an investment of $500 billion. Today, the company has been renamed Tonomus and is investing in the Metaverse and Artificial Intelligence fields.
Tonomus has invested $1 billion in artificial intelligence projects including the Metaverse Platform, hoping to advance the goal of positioning Neom as the world's first "cognitive community".
Neom is a Saudi megacity under construction, touted as 33 times the size of New York City, and will include a 170-km straight line city called "The Line". It is reported that Neom is expected to accommodate 5 million people, including multi-story vertical buildings, equipped with high-speed trains, vertical agriculture, stadiums and yacht marina running under the buildings, which can be used for people to work, live and relax.
Tonomus CEO Joseph Bradley said the company is working to integrate artificial intelligence technology into The Line, which will have robots, holograms, mirror facades and 100% use renewable energy.
"In my opinion, Neom is indeed becoming the innovation engine of GCC." Bradley told Reuters .
Bradley said the metaverse will support people from all over the world to visit Neom virtually before investing in the city. Now digital twin technology has been applied to the construction of The Line, which will help improve residents' lifestyle once the city is built.
"If you own an apartment in Neom... you can decide what it is for yourself and you can even invite guests to meet in avatars," Bradley said.
Saudi Arabia is not the first Gulf country to hope to use the metaverse to increase its attractiveness to investors and potential residents. In July this year, Dubai announced a metaverse plan aimed at creating 40,000 new jobs and $4 billion in economic value within five years.
