Tesla FSD's smart summoning feature is about to get better. Tesla has been working hard to improve the summoning function to improve its capabilities.
So far, Smart Summon is more of a fun party trick than a feature that FSD customers actively use. There are still some issues with Tesla’s Summoning feature that need to be solved before customers can get used to using it every day.
Smart Summon still has some quirks when navigating the parking lot to reach its destination. Therefore, customers tend to use this feature when there are fewer people in the parking lot or when cars are driving in the parking lot. For example, smart summoning is often troublesome when a car is parked backwards, as the first step to reaching the destination is usually to exit the parking space.
"I reported to Tesla a nasty mistake that the car was forgetting when it closed that it was reversing on the last move. When it started again, it remembers its position and direction of travel. But it assumes that it is moving forward, so it now thinks it is 180 degrees with reality," said one FSD user of the story of Smart Summon.
"It won't correct itself until it really starts moving, it can tell from its GPS position that it is heading in the opposite direction. If it stops where there is no GPS reception, it can take a long time."
single FSD stack
2021, Elon Musk points out that smart summoning is sometimes useful, but mainly "just a fun trick." He added that once Tesla transfers these capabilities to a single system FSD stack, the summoning capabilities and highway driving of FSD will be improved.
During AI Day, an FSD expert pointed out that the performance of the FSD stack on highway drives has been better than the production stack released by Tesla. He also mentioned a parking lot stack that Tesla aims to include in the FSD stack by the end of the year. Smart summoning and automatic parking features often go hand in hand with Tesla FSD.
FSD Experts said in detailing the parking lot stack: "So this basically lets you sit in the car in the parking lot and drive to the end of the parking lot."
Currently, Tesla is running v.10.69.2.3 in its FSD Beta program. There are some minor issues with v.10.69 and subsequent iterations, but FSD Beta testers have seen significant improvements since their release.
Tesla plans to release version 10.69.3 soon, and Musk jokingly claims it will make major improvements to FSD again. Based on improvements in 10.69, demonstrations during AI Day 2022, and updates by Musk, Tesla appears to be close to releasing a single FSD stack.
