At present, Samsung has the best after-sales software support policy in the Android device field. Many of Samsung's flagship and mid-range Galaxy devices are eligible for three major operating system upgrades, and some flagship products have even received four major operating system upgrades. In addition, low-end Samsung devices have received at least two major Android operating system upgrades.
As for security updates, Samsung is also excellent in these aspects, and often ahead of Google when it comes to launching new monthly security updates for many of its phones and tablets. Samsung promises that security updates for its devices will last for five years, and there is nothing to question given the number of devices Samsung continues to release each year.
However, when it comes to Samsung's latest foldable phones Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, Samsung seems to have lost the chain. Both phones are eligible for monthly security updates, but in most markets, both are still stuck on the July security update and have not been updated for two months.
Samsung has also pushed some stability updates for Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, so these two phones are naturally not hidden. Nevertheless, consumers are not dissatisfied with the software support obtained by these two phones after they were launched. It’s not that software updates are really that important, but that consumers spend so much money to buy these devices, especially the Galaxy Z Fold 4, and should enjoy the corresponding services.
The biggest problem at the moment is that Samsung has not yet started publicly testing One UI 5.0 (Android 13) for any folding phone in 2022. Understandably, foldable products have relatively low sales, which gives Samsung no reason to rush to beta testing the new software of the Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4, but since consumers have paid more money for these products, they shouldn't have to wait.
Although consumers are not so eager to test Android 13 on the Galaxy Z Flip 4, because the phone does not face any security issues or vulnerabilities. But this is a matter of principle, so I hope Samsung can take the benefits of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 software updates to a new level.
