According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming Apple Watch Series 8 will be able to tell the wearer that their body temperature is higher than normal, thanks to a new built-in sensor. Gurman wrote in the latest issue of his Power On newsletter that the Apple Watch Series 8 is expected to be equipped with a new body temperature sensor, given that it passed Apple’s internal testing of .
However, Gurman noted that he thinks both the standard Series 8 and the new "ruggedized" sensor designed for athletes are "doable." Unlike traditional dedicated thermometers, the Apple Watch doesn't give users a direct reading of their current body temperature, but rather alerts them directly when it thinks they have a fever.
We can expect some new health tracking features on this year’s Apple Watch. It was reported in April this year that Apple has been working on adding a body temperature detection function to its Series 8 models, provided that the function passes the review in internal testing. I now believe that both the standard Apple Watch Series 8 and the rugged version for extreme sports athletes will have this feature.
In January of this year, Gurman said that internal discussions about equipping the Apple Watch 8 series with a body temperature sensor had slowed down. Since then, enthusiasm for the feature has apparently grown within Apple, helping to drive development efforts. Apple often adds new sensors and health features to the Apple Watch, and the last device added was a blood oxygen sensor in the Apple Watch 6 series.
Aside from the new body temperature sensor, the Apple Watch Series 8 is expected to maintain the same design as the Apple Watch Series 7, including the same processor as the Series 6 and 7. At the same time, the Apple Watch Series 8 may include a better display in the high-end model.
