Over the past few seasons, the Clippers have enjoyed Batum's style of play. Therefore, the team management tried its best to keep Batum. They declined the smaller team option on his contract to give him more money and stability on a two-year deal.
The Clippers will have Kawhi Leonard and Paul George back with the team and hope for better health next season as they must push forward before the current competitive window ends NBA Total champion.
This extension is another sign that the Clippers are serious about competing. The team paid the luxury tax well with the moves they made last season, such as acquiring Robert Covington and Norman Powell , who have already signed big-money contracts. They have already renewed the contracts of Batum and Ivica Zubac, and also signed John Wall.
The Clippers are heavily funded by the league's richest owner Ballmer and it looks like he's ready to inject as much money into the team as they can while they have a chance to become the best player in the league.
Keeping Batum is also a good choice, because he will pose a threat to any other team's Clippers . His strength, length and scoring ability make him a tough player on both ends of the floor. This is a great decision from the Clippers and one they will be shaking their fists at next season.
