According to Li Zhangyu's mother, Li Zhangyu couldn't walk smoothly because of his illness when he was a child, but when he stepped on a bicycle on the Olympic track, it was like having wings.
In 2008, Li Zhangyu joined the newly formed Zhejiang Disabled Bicycle Team. Since that time, Li Zhangyu has been training for about 360 days every 365 days a year.
