The mayor of Mohamed Salah's hometown in Egypt insisted that the Liverpool striker had experienced social distancing during a family wedding he attended before testing positive for Covid-19.
The two-time African footballer has been quarantined in Egypt since Friday, when he tested with his national teammates.
Salah attended the wedding of his brother Nasr in Nag Town, and there are photos showing him wearing a mask on his chin while dancing. Maher Shtiyah, the mayor of
Nagrig, told the Egyptian media that the number of guests participating in the ceremony was limited to between 60 and 70, with only relatives participating.
"This is a social distance," the mayor said. Salah just took off his mask while taking pictures. Even when we hug him, we just kiss his shoulder, not his face. "Z1z
Salah’s national teammate and Premier League Aston Villa’s Trezeguet also attended the wedding. Z1z
, 28, also participated in the celebration ceremony of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) in Cairo. Celebrating his becoming the first Egyptian to win the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
Egyptian EFA interim chairman Amr El-Ganainy told MBC Egypt TV on Friday: "He appeared at the ceremony for no more than five minutes, wearing Mask, walk alone into the hallway, respect social distance.
"He accepts the award himself...according to Liverpool's request." The
Education for All Forum stated that the second test confirmed that Salah was infected with the coronavirus. He is currently under quarantine at the hotel where the group is staying, but shows no symptoms . The
team doctor is in contact with the Liverpool medical team. He is not showing any symptoms of coronavirus
Salah will miss the African Cup qualifiers between Egypt and Togo on Saturday.
He may miss Liverpool's next two games, which will make the defending champion lose a player who has scored 8 goals in 8 Premier League matches this season.
