It looks like Donovan. Mitchell being traded to the Knicks is more than just a pipe dream.
After news broke of the Jazz's rebuild, The Athletic reported Wednesday night that the Knicks have entered into trade talks with the Jazz for Mitchell. The Jazz are still talking to other teams, but the Knicks have become the "focus" in recent days. On paper, this deal is a no-brainer.
At just 25 years old, Mitchell is a unique figure. He's a New Yorker who understands the pressure that comes with playing for the Knicks, and his trade has even been linked to the newest Knicks player, Jalen Brunson.
But connections alone won't get it done this time, unlike the courtship of former Mavericks star Brunson, who signed as a free agent. It will take a long time for Mitchell to land with the Knicks. That could mean franchise cornerstone RJ Barrett and other young players like Quentin Grimes. That could mean a couple of first-round picks. Although both Rose and the Knicks want to trade for Mitchell, the price may be too high. The Jazz recently received four first-round picks (three unprotected) and one from the Timberwolves in a pick swap. Rudy Gobert is a solid player, but not as versatile as Mitchell. value.
They also signed excellent players Patrick Beverley, Malik Beasley and Jared Vanderbilt, as well as the 20th overall pick in this year's draft Walker Kay Sler center Walker Kessler.
The Knicks have 11 first-round picks over the next seven years, and the Jazz are reportedly interested in accumulating draft picks.
