Do you understand the ocean? Marine Science Why is it called an "interesting and mysterious" discipline? What do we need to do if we want to become an oceanographer?
is connected with the ocean
The most common scenes in science fiction stories are outer space and the ocean, and those mysterious stories that happen deep in the ocean will especially arouse our curiosity about the unknown world. Curiosity is the best mentor, which guides us to explore, dig, and discover unknown areas.
Marine technology can help the development of marine science.
For me who had never seen the sea before in college, the ocean is always a mysterious existence. I still remember the situation when I first faced the sea. It was deep and wide, sometimes calm and sometimes surging. Every time the waves hit, I felt that the sea seemed to be telling humans something. Later, I finally had the opportunity to sit in the university classroom and listen to the university professors explaining marine knowledge in an easy-to-understand manner. The veil of the ocean was slowly lifted open, and I gradually gained a clearer understanding of marine science.
Marine Science is a very extensive discipline covering the fields, involving various circles of hydrosphere , biosphere , lithosphere, atmosphere and cryosphere. If we subdivided it, disciplines aimed at exploring the internal laws of various marine phenomena, including physical oceanography, marine biology, marine chemistry and geology, etc.; disciplines related to marine development and utilization and monitoring technology research and development, covering marine engineering, port waterways, materials science, mechanical automation and satellite remote sensing, etc. Marine technology provides modern means for the development of marine science, and marine science plays a leading role in the progress of marine technology.
Marine Science Study Guide
Earth Science is all-encompassing.
Different research directions have different professional courses.
Marine science belongs to earth science in disciplines. First of all, it is closely related to the earth's own natural geographical , such as the location and scope of the world's main oceans, the differences in sea and land distribution in the northern and southern hemispheres, and the distribution of mountains and glaciers. Therefore, mastering solid world geography knowledge is a prerequisite for becoming an excellent oceanographer.
After entering the university, higher-level professional courses are essential according to the specific research direction selected. For example: in physics and oceanography, you need to take the compulsory advanced mathematics , university physics, fluid mechanics and ocean circulation; marine biology major, biochemistry , animal biology, modern molecular biology , etc.; marine chemistry major, chemistry principle, physicochemistry, seawater analytical chemistry, etc. The study of these professional courses will provide further knowledge reserves and training for future scientific research.
Ocean Investigation - Practice the truth
00 The Norwegian explorer Nansen drifted with ice on the Arctic ice field on the Flame sailing ship. Despite the harsh environment, Nansen led his warriors to carry out various marine surveys while fighting the cold storm. After several days of observation, Nansen discovered a strange phenomenon: the drifting direction of Arctic sea has a certain angle difference between the drifting direction and the wind direction on the sea surface, and is located on the right side of the wind direction. This phenomenon cannot be explained by the mainstream oceanographic theory at that time. Later, after research, the Swedish Eckman proposed the famous "Eckman Transportation" theory in 1905, which mechanism explained the internal law of inconsistent wind direction and surface flow direction, which became a landmark event in the history of marine science development. The discovery process of this theory also further interprets the highly dialectical unified relationship between marine scientific research and marine investigation.
There is a certain angle difference between the drifting direction of Arctic sea ice and the wind direction on the sea surface.
As the saying goes, "There is no right to speak without investigation." Many major theoretical breakthroughs in the development of marine science are inseparable from marine investigation. Therefore, the courses in marine surveys and practices are also compulsory courses for marine science majors.
marine practice courses mainly include two categories: overseas internships and laboratory experiments. The purpose of the internship on the sea is to be familiar with the use of marine observation equipment, the methods and means of data collection, the basic principles and quality control of data processing; laboratory experiments include laboratory simulation of basic oceanographic theory, further analysis and processing of biological, chemical and geological samples, etc. These practical courses combine theoretical knowledge with specific oceanographic research processes, which is a necessary path for oceanographers to grow.
If you want to become an excellent oceanographer, you must first lay a solid foundation for various disciplines in primary and secondary school stages. After choosing a major in marine science based on your interests and hobbies and expertise, you should pay special attention to the study of professional basic courses, and combine necessary practical courses to simultaneously start participating in basic scientific research projects, cultivate your own scientific thinking habits from all aspects, and master scientific research methods, so that you can gradually grow into an excellent oceanographer.
