Q25
Where are the VOCs emitted by plants in higher concentrations?
A
On a global scale, tropical and subtropical areas have a large amount of vegetation and have large areas of tropical rainforests and forests. Moreover, these areas have high temperatures and radiation all year round, so plants in these areas emit a large amount of VOCs. In the human living environment, the amount of VOCs emitted in suburban areas is generally greater than that in urban areas due to lower development, smaller built-up area, and larger number of plants.

Q26
What are the differences in VOCs emitted by plants in different seasons?
A
The VOCs emitted by plants have obvious seasonal changes. In summer, the temperature is higher, the solar radiation is stronger, and the physiological activities of plants are stronger, so more VOCs are emitted. In winter, deciduous plants will wither and fall off their leaves and enter a physiological dormant period, thus greatly reducing their VOCs emissions; while evergreen plants will also reduce their VOCs emissions as the ambient temperature drops.
