research results were published in the journal " Coordination Chemistry ". Platinum compounds are catalysts that speed up reactions and make chemical processes more efficient. Furthermore, these compounds are biologically active and therefore useful as antimicrobial and anticancer drugs. A team of SUSU scientists synthesized new compounds using sodium chloride, significantly improving their efficiency and solubility.

"Today, molecular compounds of platinum have attracted a lot of attention. But one of the disadvantages of such compounds is poor solubility. Since we are talking about drugs, it is better to dissolve them in water or other solvents. So we use Sodium chloride studies ionic compounds . As a basis, we use various phosphorus cations , phosphonium salts as cations.

We use platinum derivatives as anions. The compounds themselves are also biologically active. Therefore, both cations and anions are biologically active," explains Olga Sharutina, one of the study's authors and head of the Department of Applied and Theoretical Chemistry at SUSU.

SUSU Synthetic methods developed by chemists make it very easy to synthesize such compounds at minimal cost because available solvents are used. The Computer Modeling of Drugs Research Laboratory at SUSU's Higher School of Medicine and Biology has developed an algorithm for in silico studies of compounds that could become drugs. It shows high antibacterial efficacy of all 34 new platinum compounds.
