〖Ophthalmologist comes to popularize science〗
question:
Many patients have asked, after cataract surgery in one eye, they can see clearly. Can they not have surgery on the other eye temporarily?
Dean Tang Qiongyan said: Our vision does not seem to be affected, but stereoscopic vision will be significantly reduced, which can be simply understood as "not being able to see far and near." This visual impairment will cause patients to easily see clearly when going up and down stairs, causing the phenomenon of falling into the air. It will also increase the probability of accidental falls when the road is uneven... These situations are common in clinical practice.
"The reason why people can see things is because the external light passes through the lens, reaches the retina and forms an image. However, the retina is a two-dimensional plane. People can generally only perceive flat objects with the vision of one eye alone." Dr. Tang Qiongyan, deputy director of Changsha Aier Eye Hospital and director of the cataract department further explained that only through binocular vision can people have the perception of a deep three-dimensional space. This is depth perception, also known as distance perception or stereoscopic perception.
"Clinically, we will encounter some patients who say that their visual acuity is 1.0 in one eye after surgery, but they still can't see clearly. This is not because the previous surgery was not done well, but because only cataract surgery in one eye is performed, which will lead to an increase in the visual gap between the two eyes. This situation will cause many elderly people to be at risk of falling when walking. The reason is caused by impairment of distance perception or stereoscopic perception. "
Dr. Tang Qiongyan, deputy director of Changsha Aier Eye Hospital and director of the cataract department, warmly reminds:
1 and have the same degree of cataract in both eyes. Cataract patients with poor vision in both eyes can establish and restore the balance of vision in both eyes as soon as possible after surgery on both eyes.
2, is aimed at cataract patients with high myopia. After the first eye is repaired, both eyes will have anisometropia, such as double vision; inconsistency in size and distance; risk of falling when walking, going up and down stairs, etc... Therefore, surgical treatment of both eyes must be performed under the arrangement of the doctor to facilitate daily life.
3, If a cataract patient only has one eye and the other eye is delayed for too long, it is likely to be delayed until the cataract is in the advanced stage, secondary glaucoma and many other complications may occur, and the chance of regaining sight may even be delayed or lost.
Many elderly people feel that surgery is too much trouble when they are older.
Even if the vision of one eye is restored after surgery, they can barely live a life.
In fact, this is not the case. It affects our normal life
and also adds many health risks
Senile cataract, as a common reversible blinding eye disease
deserves everyone's careful prevention and active treatment
