Gallbladder polyps are familiar to many of us, but some people have suffered a great loss because they do not understand their dangers. In fact, the disease itself is not terrible. The key is that everyone should correctly understand the disease so that they can choose the correct treatment method for different situations. Gallbladder polyps refer to the general term for lesions that are attached to the gallbladder wall and protrude into the gallbladder cavity. Gallbladder polyps are difficult to disappear on their own and are classified according to their properties into cholesterol polyps, adenomatous polyps, inflammatory polyps, and rare tumor polyps. Most gallbladder polyps are cholesterol polyps. How do gallbladder polyps form? How to choose treatment method?

1. How are gallbladder polyps formed?

The normal gallbladder wall is divided into three layers: mucosa, muscle layer and adventitia from the inside to the outside. Gallbladder polyps refer to a type of lesions in which the gallbladder mucosa bulges and grows into the gallbladder cavity like polyps. Pathologically, gallbladder polyps can be divided into two categories. One type is non-neoplastic polyps, also called pseudopolyps, such as cholesterol polyps, inflammatory polyps, focal gallbladder adenomyosis, etc. The reason is that the content balance of various components in bile is broken or chronic inflammation stimulates cyst wall hyperplasia; the other type is neoplastic polyps, also called true polyps, including adenomas and adenocarcinomas. These diseases are very rare and are real tumors growing out of the cyst wall.

The formation of cholesterol polyps is related to the excessive bile cholesterol in the gallbladder and the deposition of crystals on the gallbladder wall. There are many reasons for the formation of cholesterol polyps, including diet, life, and gallbladder function. Excessive intake of high-calorie, high-fat, high-cholesterol foods, irregular meals a day, or other factors can cause gallbladder contraction dysfunction. Excessive cholesterol or cholestasis can cause cholesterol crystals to adhere to the gallbladder wall.

2. How should patients with gallbladder polyps choose treatment methods?

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the onset of gallbladder polyps is caused by emotional disorders (suppression, depression, irritability), injuries caused by diet (excessive eating of fat, sweet, and greasy food, excessive drinking), overwork (fatigue, overwork, and excessive ease), and the perception of external evils (summer-dampness, wind-cold), etc. It is a disease caused by failure of the liver and gallbladder to relieve diarrhea, qi blockage, poor blood circulation, unfavorable bile secretion, accumulation of dampness and heat, internal stasis of blood, and formation of lumps and accumulation over time. For patients whose size is less than 1.5cm and who have no obvious symptoms or cancer tendency, traditional Chinese medicine or Chinese patent medicine (Xifuxin) can be used to control the development of polyps, eliminate uncomfortable symptoms, inhibit polyps, gradually shrink, eliminate them, strengthen the body, and finally avoid recurrence.

If polyps are discovered late, the diameter of the polyps is greater than 1.5cm, or there are other cancerous tendencies, active laparoscopic cholecystectomy can be considered at this time. After the operation, the gallbladder will be sent to the pathology department for further staining and biopsy examination to determine the nature of the polyps and whether they have malignant transformation. Note that after laparoscopic cholecystectomy, you need to reduce your intake of foods with high fat content such as eggs, milk, and meat to avoid the possibility of further formation of common bile duct stones. (Reminder that the above-mentioned Chinese patent medicines contain ginseng, so pregnant women cannot take them. It is recommended to arrange the time to take them before preparing for pregnancy or after giving birth to eliminate polyps)
