According to the National Health Insurance Administration, on September 27, the state organized a bid opening meeting for centralized procurement of orthopedic spinal consumables with volume, and generated the results of the proposed winnings through online bid opening. This is the third batch of high-value medical consumables procurement organized by the state after cardiac stent and artificial joint . It is expected that patients across the country will use the selected products after the price reduction in February 2023.
This procurement covers five orthopedic spine consumables, including cervical spine fixation fusion, thoracolumbar fixation fusion, vertebral swelling , endoscopic , and artificial intervertebral disc replacement. This includes 14 product system categories. The intended purchase volume in the first year was 1.09 million units, accounting for 90% of the total demand for medical institutions across the country, involving a market size of about 31 billion yuan. The average price reduction of this centralized procurement is 84%. Based on the agreed procurement volume, it is estimated that 26 billion yuan of expenses can be saved each year.
For example, the average price of per set of thoracolumbar posterior fixation fusion surgery, which accounts for 1/3 of the spinal surgery, has dropped from 33,000 yuan per set to about 4,500 yuan; among them, the average price of per set of some well-known foreign brands has dropped from 60,000 yuan to about 4,800 yuan. The latest technology minimally invasive thoracic and lumbar spine surgery, the average price per set of consumables used has dropped from nearly 40,000 yuan to about 5,600 yuan. The average price of vertebral shaping surgery consumables used to treat compressive fractures has dropped from 27,000 yuan to about 1,100 yuan.
It is reported that a total of 171 companies participated in this procurement, and 152 companies were expected to be selected, with a winning rate of 89%. The selected companies include well-known multinational companies such as Medtronic and Johnson & Johnson , as well as domestically-funded enterprises such as Vigo Orthopedics , Dabo Medical , Sanyou Medical, etc. The diversified product supply will be conducive to the smooth implementation of centralized procurement results and fully meet clinical needs.
At this point, the centralized procurement of volume by national organizations and local governments has covered three major categories of joints, trauma, and spine of orthopedic consumables. It is estimated that by the end of 2022, through national organizations and provincial alliance procurement, each province will cover more than 350 drug varieties on average, and more than 5 high-value medical consumables varieties.
