Utah Jazz finally chose to compromise in the contract extension with Gobert. They locked Gobert in advance with a high price of 205 million in 5 years until at least 2025, with the final year as a player option. The five-year 205 million contract of
is also the largest contract in the history of the center. With the incentive clause, Gobert can get up to 228 million in five years.
As the two-time best defensive player and last year’s All-Star insider, Gobert, who is also a 2013 rookie with Antetokounmpo, is currently the strongest defensive center in the league. He has one year left with a contract worth $27.2 million. Expires in 2021.
Originally next year’s free agency market had five big fish: James, Antetokounmpo, Thick Eyebrow, Leonard, Antetokounmpo, but now four of them have been renewed ashore, and Leonard is unlikely to stay away from Los Angeles again.
So if Gobert, the inside pillar of the Jazz, cannot make an appointment in advance, it is likely to become the biggest star in the free agency market next year.
The Lone Ranger and the Raptors seem to have the ability to use him as a powerful jigsaw to help them upgrade to a championship-level team, so the Jazz can only bear the pain of bleeding.
Gobert averaged 11.7 points, 11 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game in his career. With him in the interior, the Utah Jazz ranked third, first and second in defense in the league in the 2016-2019 three seasons. With the addition of Donovan Mitchell, who had been renewed with a maximum salary, the core of the Jazz team for the next five years is still Gobert Mitchell.
