NBA draft will begin soon, and the Rockets, which are currently mired in trading rumors, are expected to act.
According to ESPN senior reporter Tim McMahon, the Rockets plan to buy a pick at the end of the first round or at the top of the second round on draft day.
The Rockets have previously obtained two first-round picks from the Blazers through the Covington deal, but management seems to want to accumulate more assets for future actions. Harden and Weiss, the core of the
rockets, have both taken care of it, but management has not yet conducted substantive negotiations. For Weiss, there are rumors that not many teams are interested in making this deal with the Rockets; for Harden, the Rockets are not willing to let go. The
Rockets insisted on obtaining sufficient returns from Harden, which undoubtedly increased the difficulty of the transaction. After all, Harden has a long remaining contract period, and time is on the Rockets' side.
The Rockets have not given up on persuading Harden to stay on the team. At present, they want to acquire the draft picks, possibly to create more space for reinforcements. But whether it is Harden or the Rockets, their future is very uncertain.
McMahon believes that the Rockets plan to buy draft picks and also want to prepare in advance for future rebuilding when Visharden is gone.
