Matt Nelson was the assistant coach of the Austin Spurs last season. This promotion made him the seventh head coach in the history of the Austin Spurs. Before coming to the Austin Spurs, Nelson served as an assistant coach for the Perth Wildcats in the Australian NBL League for 4 years (2015-2019), during which he helped the team win the league championship 3 times.
