In the winter of 1942, the Japanese army stationed in Xuzhou launched a 33-day sweep on the 4th district of Huaibei, trying to destroy the main force of our 4th Division of the New Fourth Army and the party and political institutions of Huaibei.
At that time, the Party Committee of Huaibei District and the leaders of the 4th Division decided that the main force would first break out of the enemy's encirclement and turn the passive position of inside combat into the active position of outside combat. Leave a force in the base area to attract and drag the enemy, and then the outside troops wait for an opportunity to attack the enemy. The unit left behind is the 26th Regiment of the 4th Division, led by Luo Yinghuai.
Luo Yinghuai
26th Regiment, together with local armed forces and militia, strengthened the walls and cleared the fields, dug trenches and broke the roads, and actively attacked and raided the enemy. Since November 15, after the enemy entered our Huaibei base, the main force of the 4th Division of the New Fourth Army was not found, but it was constantly plagued. He was really unwilling to give up and sent a secret spy to spy on the New Fourth Army troops. The 26th Regiment attacked Qingyang Town on December 7, fought fiercely for 3 hours, and then moved after killing the enemy in large numbers.
Xie Xiyu
On December 8, I received an order from my superior: cooperate with the main force on the outside line to pull out the Japanese Jinsuo Town stronghold for 10 nights. When the 26th Regiment received the order, everyone was excited: the main force has been fought back! At dusk on the 9th, the troops arrived at Zhujiagang, which was only 12 miles away from Jinsuo Town.
After arriving in Zhujiagang camp, the troops immediately moved into the battle preparations for attacking Jinsuo Town on the evening of the 10th. The troops were busy preparing the attack equipment, and the regiment headquarters held a meeting of cadres above the company overnight to make combat deployments on how to eliminate the enemies in Jinsuo Town. After the meeting, it was already 1 a.m.
Japanese bombardment
Unexpectedly, the whereabouts of the 26th regiment were discovered by traitors. Before the Buddha dawn on the 10th, three brigades of the Japanese Jinzi Regiment and a small number of more than 1,500 puppet troops surrounded Zhujiagang.
Amid the gunfire of all sides, the leader of the 26th Regiment Luo Yinghuai, political commissar Xie Xiyu, deputy commander and chief of staff Yan Guang, and several leaders discussed and decided to stay at Zhujiagang, fight until dark, wait for reinforcements, and wait for the enemy to be annihilated. The
26 regiment originally had more than 600 people, but after more than 20 days of anti-"sweeping" battle, there were only more than 500 people. On average, each soldier only has 3 or 4 platoons (5 rounds per row).
6:20, with dawn, the Japanese invaders began to attack. The Japanese invaders were shelling, and the rolling smoke and dust rose in Zhujiagang. The Japanese found out that the 26th Regiment was stationed in Caoxu and focused on attacking Caoxu.
Guarding the wall
Caoxu is the same as Huaibei villages called "wei". There are earth embankments outside the village and water moats outside the village. There is an easy road on the water moat outside the southeast gate, which is the only passage to enter and exit Caowei. There are dozens of families in the dike. There is a wide threshing ground near the southeast gate outside the dike. There are haystacks and car houses on the yard. There are two bulky three-wheeled bull-headed carts parked on the side of the yard.
Little Warrior
From around 6 o'clock to 8:40, more than 150 Japanese devils launched an attack on the 3rd platoon of the 4th Company and the 3rd platoon were defending the Southeast Dike Gate. The 3rd Platoon 7 and 8th squads used machine guns and rifles to repel the enemy's three consecutive attacks. The soldier Cao Jincai shot calmly and killed 7 Japanese devils. At around 9 o'clock, the Japanese concentrated artillery fire and bombarded the southeast gate fiercely. Then, the Japanese rushed up again. With the fortifications of 3rd platoon, 7th squads, 8th squads, were destroyed and the wall collapsed, they launched a fierce hand-to-hand combat with the Japanese army. Many soldiers and the enemy died together. Some of the Japanese rushed into the Southeast Wei Gate. Cao Wei's 26th Regiment headquarters was the central brain that commanded the battle, which was related to the overall situation and the situation was very critical! The second battalion commander Zhang Liye, who was commanding the battle, was injured and fell to the ground again
0 The Japanese climbed the wall
At this critical moment (the regiment commander Luo Yinghuai started the battle, and his right leg was broken and seriously injured). Deputy Commander Yan saw the gunfire stopped here and found that the Japanese were rushing in. Immediately ordered the treasure-like heavy machine gun to shoot in the dike and block the dike gate. Machine gunner Ji Yongchun flew across the shrapnel and shot alone, pressing the thumbs of his hands and firing, not pitying the bullets. The Maxim machine gun played a firing rate of 600 rounds per minute, almost twice as high as the Type 92 fire rate. The bullets knocked the Japanese who rushed into the Wumen Gate to the ground like pouring rain. The close lethality of the heavy machine gun bullets was terrible. The injured Japanese had broken limbs and legs rolled on the ground and cried. The Japanese inside and outside the Wumen Gate were dead bodies everywhere, and the Japanese were charged back again.
26 Regiment fought from all sides, the 3rd battalion was separated by the Japanese in Sungang, and the 3rd platoon of the 4th Company was completely injured and killed. The battle was in full swing in other places, so there was no one left. Deputy Commander Yan had to send the "Little Devil Squad" of the 9th squad of the 4th Company to the battlefield.
26-year-old Deputy Commander Yan said to them: "Comrades, who is the hard bone of the poor? Let's stand up at the most dangerous and difficult time! The bayonet is the hero, and the most honorable killing the enemy and making contributions!"
Yan Guang
Little Devil's squad's gaze was firm:
"Who is afraid of death, who is the bear! Deputy Commander, arrange tasks!"
"We will definitely be able to guard the gate!"
Deputy Commander Yan divided the Devil's squad into two assault groups, one of which was the robbery group. After they asked them to attack, they dragged back the two big trucks on the threshing field outside the dike wall to block the dike gate. He also called Yin Zuoxin, deputy company commander of the 4th Company, from other positions to command the little devil squad.
The little ghost squad just entered the position near the dike wall, and the Japanese launched another attack. The "Little Devils" are in a high fighting spirit, and the newborn calf is not afraid of tigers. Under the cover of machine gun and rifles in the empire, the assault team first threw a grenade at the enemy outside the empire, disrupting the Japanese, then waved their swords and shouted "Avenge the martyrs!" and rushed straight to the enemy group. The Japanese were lying on the ground to avoid grenades. Unpredictable, a group of New Fourth Army holding big swords rushed out of the ditches. The Japanese fired a single rifle, but before they could aim, they got up and ran away. The "Little Ghost Class" snatched the car team took the plane to grab two big trucks on the threshing ground and blocked the blown-up gate.
Outside the gate, there was a moment of silence. But you can see the Japanese steel helmet flashing under the winter sun, and the Japanese crawling on the ground. After a while, the Japanese shells fell down with a whistling sound. A "boom" exploded near the dike gate, black smoke rose and soil splashed. The Japanese machine gun was also called to open, and the unique "gugugugugu" of the crooked machine gun kept ringing. Dense bullets flew over the soldiers' heads and hit the ground to stir up clusters of earth flowers. Under the cover of powerful firepower, a Japanese sergeant guided him in front of him with a plaster flag, and dozens of Japanese storms rushed up with bayonets. It turns out that the Japanese saw that the "Little Ghost Class" was young and tried to scare people with their spiritual battles. The Japanese straightened up without any concealment and rushed up shouting.

"Little Imperial Squad" soldiers said they were not panicked, but when they saw the deputy company commander and instructor lying calmly on the ground with contempt sneer on their faces, they calmed down.
is only 3 or 40 meters away. Deputy Company Commander Yin Zuoxin shouted "Ship!" The bullets of the "Little Devil Squad" hit the Japanese accurately. If they could not hit such a close distance, it would discredit the reputation of the main force. More than 30 Japanese devils fell to the ground and returned to their hometown in Dongyang; the remaining Japanese devils rolled and crawled back to the ditch, and the leading Japanese soldiers and the plaster flag were discarded outside the moat.
Before the "little ghost squad" was breathing, the Japanese began to shell again, and shells exploded near the ditches. The red water in the ditches was blown up like heavy rain, covering the defenders.
"Comrades! We are facing the most vicious Japanese invaders. They have raped, burned and killed our territory for several years and committed all kinds of evil. Today is the time for us to avenge our dead relatives and fellow villagers!" As soon as the cannon stopped, instructor Tian Lincai immediately launched a political agitation. Some parents in the little ghost squad were indeed killed by the ghost squad. The loud voice of the instructor aroused the soldiers of the "Little Devils" hatred for the devils.
"As long as we have our 'little ghost squad', the Japanese devils will not want to enter the dike!"
The devils dare not be too arrogant anymore. They used cross cover and group leaps forward, and gradually approached the dike.
"Save ammunition! If you can't hit the enemy, don't shoot!"
is only 2 or 30 meters away. The machine guns and rifles spit out flames, like the strong wind blowing away the straw stacks, and the Japanese rolling around like bundles of yellow straw. The grenades thrown by the soldiers exploded in the Japanese group. With the rising black smoke, the Japanese's broken limbs and arms flew into the air. A Japanese man wearing glasses was shocked and did not escape with his accomplices, but ran to the edge of the ditches. A young soldier shot him head-on. The Japanese man fell into the ditches.
At around 2 pm, the Japanese launched an attack under the cover of fierce artillery fire. Most of the bunkers built by dense artillery fire were flattened, and smoke filled the position and it was difficult to breathe. Deputy Company Commander Yin Zuoxin and Zhou Maosong, the "Little Devil Squad", were shot and killed by artillery shells. The flames of revenge burned in the heart of the little warrior. Deputy squad leader Xiao Chen took on the task of commanding the whole squad. The combat team leader Gao Peitong, machine gunner Gao Zhenxing, and soldier Wang Qinian were all as tenacious as little tigers. They ignored hunger and fatigue and repeatedly competed with the Japanese invaders for the dike. The two big trucks were hit like honeycombs by bullets. The "Little Ghost Team" relied on these two big trucks, and fought repeatedly. Once, two Japanese rush to the front of the car, one climbed over from the car and was shot to the ground; the other came from the bottom of the car, and a little soldier suddenly jumped up, raised his knife and fell, blood sprayed in the cavity, his head wearing a helmet separated from his shoulders, and rolled a few times on the ground. The young soldier knocked the chariot board with a big knife and cursed loudly: "Damn it, come on, don't be afraid of death!"
From morning to 3 pm, more than 150 Japanese soldiers charged more than 10 times at the Southeast Wumen. There were corpses outside the Wumen, and guns and ammunition were everywhere. The "Little Ghost Clan" is like a wall that blocks the Japanese outside the gate.
The Japanese couldn't help but sigh. When they wanted to make a desperate bet and launch another attack, almost all the ammunition was exhausted in the 26 regiments in the dike. At the critical moment, the commander of the 11th Brigade Wei Guoqing led his troops to come from the outside, freed the siege of the 26th Regiment, and the battle of guarding Zhujiagang was won. The "Little Devils" are on the battlefield for the first time, and their performance is impressive. It won unanimous praise from all over the country.
