On September 30, Russian soldiers posted selfies, showing that at least 6 new T-90M breakout 3 main battle tanks appeared near Dubrovka, Belgorod Prefecture, 7 kilometers away from the Ukrainian border. This is obviously a new batch of T-90Ms that reinforced the Ukrainian front line. Some media said it was the newly arrived Russian army's 58th Army. However, although the T-90M has advanced performance, it has not played any decisive role on the front line since it joined the war in May. It has neither improved the offensive capabilities of the Russian army nor consolidated the Russian army's defensive front. Instead, it has suffered a loss of war and a captured by the Ukrainian army. This shows that this expensive new main battle tank is not urgently needed by the Russian army's frontline.

Although the situational awareness, protection and firepower of T-90M are better than the T-72B3, T-90A and T-80 series tanks, its role in the battlefield is not much higher than that of the T-72B3. Because the T-72B3 can also deal with the Ukrainian armored targets it wants to deal with. Faced with the large number of anti-tank missiles of the Ukrainian army and the anti-tank mines that are thrown everywhere, the T-90M is also unable to be "immunized", so its role on the front line is actually similar to T-72. However, the production cost and manufacturing labor hours of this type of tank are far higher than the T-72 and T-80 that only need to be refurbished in stock, so the T-90M cannot be in short-term large-scale service (the total number of delivery is only about 70 vehicles at present), to supplement the equipment gap of the new mobilized troops and the combat losses on the front line. Therefore, even in terms of pure armored equipment, the T-90M is not urgently needed by the Russian military frontline at present. They need the T-72 that can be replenished in large quantities in a short period of time.

Picture: The Russian army lost its battle in March in March, but compared with tanks, what the Russian front-line troops really urgently need is powerful and precise fire cover from artillery and aviation. At present, the Russian Aerospace Forces' aviation fire cover is still insufficient on the entire eastern battlefield of Ukraine. Not only is the insufficient number of fighter jets invested, but the insufficient use of precision-guided munitions leads to low efficiency in fire cover and strikes. For example, although the Su-25 attack aircraft and armed helicopter of the Russian Aerospace Army are insisting on attacking, their effective killing is too low using a brief aiming and "upward" to launch rockets . This actually wastes a lot of attacks and does not prevent or kill the offensive launched by the Ukrainian army. In terms of the investigation and attack integrated drones, serious equipment gaps and performance restrictions have led to their failure to exert sufficient suppression and damage to the Ukrainian army on the battlefield.
Figure: The mass production of the Russian outpost-RU and Orion detection and strike integrated drones is seriously insufficient. The lack of aviation support firepower and the lack of guided ammunition equipment have made the Russian army gradually become a battle with the Ukrainian artillery in the eastern battlefield of Ukraine. In terms of long-range precision strikes, it was even suppressed by the Ukrainian army, which has obtained more and more NATO equipment and precise guided ammunition. This will prevent the consumption of troops when the troops, weapons and technical equipment cannot have an advantage, which will be detrimental to the Russian army in the long run. Therefore, if the Russian army wants to reverse the current unfavorable situation in the new stage of confrontation, in addition to supplementing the number of troops and weapons, it also needs to change its thinking in equipment procurement. Use limited funds to produce and purchase more important aviation strike weapons, drones and precision-guided munitions, rather than spending them on T-90M tanks.
