Korean War is a memory that should never be forgotten in China and even the world's history.
In order to defend national security and maintain world fairness and justice, the Chinese People's Volunteer Army went abroad to fight in North Korea, and achieved the final victory in the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea with its tenacious fighting will and heroic spirit of sacrifice.
In order to commemorate this historical moment, September 3 of each year is designated as the anniversary of the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea . October 25 of each year, the day of the first battle after the Chinese People's Volunteer Army entered North Korea, is designated as the anniversary of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army entering North Korea.
In North Korea for more than two years, more than 190,000 volunteer soldiers have been buried in foreign lands forever. They are the pride of China, the backbone of the Chinese nation, and the eternal hero in the hearts of all Chinese people.
On September 16, 2022, as transport 20 slowly landed at Shenyang Airport, the remains of the ninth batch of volunteer soldiers returned by South Korea finally returned to the embrace of the motherland.
88 remains of martyrs were escorted from the airport to the Martyrs Cemetery of the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea in Shenyang. It was raining that day, which further demonstrated a serious and solemn atmosphere.
There are many spontaneous people on both sides of the road, including some veterans standing by the road in the heavy rain, silently saluting to the military vehicle containing the remains of the martyrs. They finally waited until their comrades came home.
Perhaps many people have questions. In the Korean War, nearly 200,000 volunteer soldiers died on the front line. So, how have North Korea and South Korea kept the remains of volunteer army martyrs over the years?
If you want to know the whole story of this incident, you need to start with the outbreak of the Korean War.
For the Korean War, China did not need to participate in the war. Because the essence of the Korean War is the civil war on the Korean Peninsula, it evolved from the armed conflict that broke out between the two regimes of North and South Korea.
However, imperialism is undeadly committed to destroying me. Western countries represented by the United States want to take this opportunity to intervene in the civil war on the peninsula.
Before the United States took action, China had expressed its solemn position to the United States many times, and at the same time, it also specifically asked the Indian ambassador to China to convey China's demands to the United States. However, despite China's solemn concerns, the US landed in from Incheon on September 15, 1950, and invaded North Korea in a large-scale invasion of the United Nations Army under the banner of United Nations forces.
If the war can stop to
Faced with this situation, the central government made a decision to carry out resistance to the United States and aid Korea in order to defend the country.
In fact, the new China was just established at that time, and the national economy had not been restored. The land of China, which was plagued by war, was already full of holes.
The Korean War is an emergency, and some people even once speculated that if there was no Korean War back then, we could liberate Taiwan.
Due to China's lack of preparation and poor national defense industry, the combat environment for North Korea does not belong, so the war we participated in is extremely difficult.
On October 19, 1950, Peng Dehuai led the Chinese People's Volunteer Army to fight in North Korea. Until the end of the war, a total of about 197,000 people died in this battle.
Because our weapons and equipment level and logistics support capabilities are insufficient, we can often see close combat between volunteer soldiers and enemy troops led by the US military, even hand-to-hand combat, which is also a helpless move.
According to an American war reporter who participated in the Korean War, the volunteer army's charge usually rings in the early morning. Facing the dark night when they can't see their fingers, the US military can only hear the sound of rushing, but they can't see the volunteer army attacking from that direction.
What's even more terrifying is that according to his description, when the flare was fired, the entire battlefield was lit up instantly. At this moment, the light emitted by the flare was followed by the battlefield reporter's eyes that the volunteer soldiers did not even breathe, with their eyes wide and round, and rushed towards their positions blankly.
At that time, the trenches of the Volunteer Army and the trenches of the US military had basically been dug together. From this point of view, we can see that the volunteer soldiers who went to North Korea had never thought of coming back alive. They understood that China must win this battle.
After dawn that day, the battlefield was silent, just like nothing had happened. At that time, the US general asked the troops to collect the bodies in the trenches, but no one dared to go.
Faced with military orders that must be obeyed, many US military officers and soldiers just smoked a cigarette at the door and returned to the camp. This shows how strong the deterrent the Volunteer Army has brought to the US military.
As mentioned above, because the trenches of both sides were intertwined, our side adopted close-fitting hand-to-hand combat tactics, so a battle was fought and corpses were everywhere in the trenches.
If we win the battle, we can go and search the body carefully and take it back to make detailed records.
If the war still exists intertwined, or our mission this time is to conduct a large-scale maneuver, encirclement, or other urgent marches, there is no time to identify all the corpses one by one and bring them back.
Of course, sometimes they don’t meet the conditions to bring them back, because it is possible that all the soldiers will die after a battle.
In order to carry out post-war work in an orderly and comprehensive manner, there is also a special force in the Volunteer Army, that is, the "Body Disposal Force". Their mission is to clean the battlefield after the war, count the number of people and collect the bodies of the dead comrades.
The equipment of this army is also very simple. In addition to basic protective measures, it is to bring some rakes and shovels. The reason why
brings these two tools is that comrades who died on the battlefield are often killed by the opponent's heavy firepower, and the corpse is incomplete. They need to use tools to collect them one by one and finally piece them together.
In the Korean War, several major battles were launched in the area south of the 38th parallel. After our troops pushed the enemy to the 38th parallel, the enemy continued to resist stubbornly, so the volunteers pushed the front forward for dozens of kilometers and then retreated themselves to serve as a warning. At the same time, this also reflects the image of our mighty and civilized teachers.
So, after the end of the Korean War, the remains of Chinese People's Volunteer Army soldiers were not only left in North Korea, but also in South Korea.
Back then, the volunteer army, who returned to the Chinese territory, had less than 10,000 bodies, only five or six thousand.
In order to resettle and commemorate the soldiers of the Volunteer Army, the North Korean side built eight cemeteries after the war, buried the remains of the Volunteer Army martyrs excavated in the North Korean territory before and after, and held regular commemoration ceremonies.
Although North Korea has carried out excavations, the number of remains of volunteer martyrs buried in eight cemeteries is much lower than the actual number of people killed.
Later, in the 1960s and 1970s, China and the Soviet Union had a feud, and China continued to pursue a policy of non-alignment. Although we also tried our best to aid North Korea, the North Korean side was still unsatisfied and tensions emerged from the bilateral relations.
It was not until the 1970s that Sino-North Korea relations eased. Previously, when there was a problem with the relationship between the two countries, the North Korean side had damaged the cemetery of the volunteer soldiers many times. After the relationship between the two countries eased, the North Korean side began to rebuild the cemetery and continued to start excavating the remains. With Kim Il-sung's death, Chao Wen stopped the relevant excavation work.
South Korea, which returned the remains of the volunteer army in September this year, also carried out excavations after the war.
South Korea once sent 10,000 remains of martyrs, including the Korean People's Army and the Chinese People's Volunteer Army, on the North Korea-South Korea border in September the second year after the end of the Korean War.
After that, South Korea had no intention of continuing to search, but since nearly 10,000 people were missing in the Korean War, the US demanded that South Korea work with the United States to continue to excavate corpses in South Korea. On the other hand, an office of the Missing Person was established to cooperate with North Korea and invest $30 million to jointly conduct body excavation work in North Korea.
It was not until 2007 that the cooperation between the two countries ended after the US-North Korea relations began to deteriorate.
, and during the excavation process, the South Korean side discovered a large number of remains of volunteers. In the 1990s, when the relationship between the north and the south was tense, the South Korean side could only store the excavated remains of the martyrs of the Korean People's Army and the Chinese People's Volunteer Army on the spot.
It was not until 1996 that South Korea built the "North Korean Chinese Military Cemetery" and stored it here.
As China-South Korea relations recovered, in 2013, the two countries reached a relevant agreement, and both sides agreed to return the remains of the volunteer army once a year. This work has continued to this day. This return ceremony in September 2022 is the ninth time.
Today, the ninth body return ceremony was successfully held, which is of great significance to China.
On the one hand, for the internal purpose, this action comforted the volunteer soldiers' spirits in heaven, allowing them to finally return to their roots after 70 years, and at the same time condensed the centripetal force of the Chinese nation.
On the other hand, for the international community, they have seen the image of China's responsible power. More importantly, the place where the ceremony was held was the Incheon , which was landed on the US military back then. The balance of power between the East and the West was fully reflected.
