In June 1950, a civil war broke out on the Korean Peninsula. By mid-September, the United Nations Army led by the United States, landed in in Incheon and began to interfere in the Korean civil war. The addition of the US military has rapidly expanded the scale of the Korean War and has also caused drastic changes in the situation in East Asia. In just one month, the US military burned the war to the edge of Yalu River, seriously threatening the security of our northeast.
In order to defend the country, our country decided to send volunteer army to fight in North Korea. Then, under the instructions of the Central Military Commission, the People's Liberation Army troops from all over the country were transferred to the north. In addition to the regular troops, a large number of Chinese people joined the volunteer army and boarded the train to the Northeast. Among them is Mao Zedong's eldest son Mao Anying.
On November 25, 1950, it was exactly one month after the volunteer army entered North Korea. On this day, three bombers of the United Nations Army flew to Dayu Cave, where the Volunteer Army Command was located. At 11 a.m., the Dayu Cave Command sounded an air defense alarm. Peng Dehuai, Mao Anying and others entered the air raid shelter to avoid it. However, the enemy planes did not drop bombs, but roared away.
After the air defense alarm was lifted, Mao Anying returned to the war room to continue working. At this moment, the enemy plane suddenly returned and dropped hundreds of napalm bombs at the headquarters. The flames of thousands of degrees engulfed the wooden house where Mao Anying worked. Mao Anying and his staff officer Gao Ruixin could not escape and died on the spot.
Going to North Korea to fight
1922, Mao Anying was born in Changsha, Hunan and is the eldest son of Mao Zedong and Yang Kaihui. After Mao Anying was born, the Communist Party of China ushered in the most difficult years. He and his mother were unfortunately arrested in the White Wave. In 1930, Yang Kaihui was killed, and Mao Anying was successfully released on bail under the operation of the Communists. After 1936, Mao Anying arrived in Moscow and later studied at the Lenin Military and Political Academy. After the outbreak of in World War II, Mao Anying also participated in the Patriotic War of in the Soviet Union.
1946, Mao Anying returned to Yan'an . At Mao Zedong's request, Mao Anying entered the land reform work group. After the liberation of Peking, Mao Anying became the secretary and translator of Li Kenong, Minister of the Social Department of the CPC Central Committee, and has been working in Beijing since then. After the founding of New China, Mao Anying served as deputy secretary of the Party branch at the Beijing Machinery General Factory. Mao Anying originally planned to practice in the factory for more time, but the outbreak of the Korean War disrupted his plan. After the central leadership made the decision to resist U.S. aggression and aid Korea, Mao Anying immediately found Peng Dehuai, the commander-in-chief of the Volunteer Army, and expressed his hope to go to North Korea with the Volunteer Army. Peng Dehuai firmly opposed Mao Anying's request. But Mao Anying said that his father had agreed, which surprised Peng Dehuai. In desperation, he had to agree to Mao Anying's request.
Peng Dehuai practiced it for him before heading to North Korea, while Mao Anying was with him. At the dinner table, Peng Dehuai mentioned this matter again, believing that An Ying should not go to the Korean battlefield. But Mao Zedong smiled and said: Mr. Peng, just let An Ying go, this is also a good opportunity to experience. Moreover, the British and American can speak Russian and English, which can be used as an interpreter for you.

After Mao Anying went to North Korea, he served as the translator of the Volunteer Army Command and also participated in the first battle of the Volunteer Army entering North Korea. At that time, Mao Anying's pseudonym was Secretary Liu. Except for several senior generals such as Peng Dehuai, he basically didn't know Mao Anying's identity. According to Peng Dehuai's secretary Yang Feng'an recalled, Mao Anying is low-key, treats people sincerely and kindly, and does not have the arrogance of a leader's child at all.
At that time, Mao Anying, like other staff, ate unskinned sorghum rice porridge and dried fried noodles. Peng Dehuai tried to pull him to eat some good food several times, but Mao Anying refused. Mao Anying was a Russian translator at that time, but after finishing the work at hand, Mao Anying would help complete other tasks. Therefore, colleagues who do not know their identity have a good impression of Mao Anying.
At that time, the Volunteer Army Command was stationed in the Dayudong area. Because the headquarters had a large number of radio stations at the headquarters maintained high power operation for a long time, it was soon noticed by the US military's reconnaissance aircraft . On the afternoon of November 24, 1950, two US military "Black Widow" reconnaissance aircraft hovered over the Dayudong for more than an hour, and it was obvious that they had discovered something. In case, the Volunteer Army Command stipulates that the meal will be finished at 4 a.m. the next day, and after dawn, everyone except the on-duty personnel must enter the air-raid shelter.
On the morning of November 25, several United Nations aircraft flew over the Dayu Cave. The air defense force immediately sounded the air defense alarm. After Peng Dehuai's secretary Yang Feng'an walked into the war room, he found that Mao Anying and Gao Ruixin were still working, so he criticized them harshly and asked the two to enter the air-raid shelter quickly.
However, after Mao Anying and others were shockingly air raid shelter, the enemy plane did not drop the bomb, and then stayed for a while before leaving. After waiting for a while, the air raid sir between Mao Anying and Gao Ruixin was lifted, and he returned to the war room to continue working. Unexpectedly, the enemy plane turned the nose at this time and returned to the Dayudong area to drop hundreds of napalm bombs. Mao Anying and Gao Ruixin failed to escape and were eventually burned to death. Afterwards, the staff found two burnt bodies in the fire, and finally determined his identity based on the Soviet watch carried by Mao Anying.

After Mao Anying died, others proposed to send Mao Anying back to China for burial, but Peng Dehuai rejected it. In the end, Mao Anying and Gao Ruixin were buried on the slope of Dayu Cave.
By the end of 1954, the general cadres of the Volunteer Army proposed to the Central Committee to move Mao Anying's coffin back to Beijing for burial. However, after discussion, the central government decided to move Mao Anying to the Chinese Volunteer Army Martyrs Cemetery in Huicang for burial. The date of 's funeral is set around the Qingming Festival in the following year.
By the Qingming Festival in 1955, the volunteer soldiers were preparing to move Mao Anying and Gao Ruixin's coffins to Martyrs Cemetery . However, before the soldiers could excavate, a group of North Korean women surrounded and stopped the volunteers from digging the cemetery of the two. One of them even shouted: This is my son's tomb, no one is allowed to dig . After learning about it, the volunteers learned that during a US bombing operation, the North Korean woman's home was burning. At that time, Mao Anying risked his life to rush into the fire house and saved her child. After Mao Anying died, he was buried not far from the woman's house. In order to express his gratitude and nostalgia for Mao Anying, this woman often went to the grave to help him clean.
Then, the volunteer army informed her of Mao Anying’s true identity. When the woman learned that Mao Anying was the son of the Chinese leader, she was so shocked that she could not speak. She had to send Mao Anying away with tears.
