On October 18, the Australian Immigration Bureau’s official website announced the physical examination requirements for exempting some applicants from temporary residence visas. Note: This requirement is for applicants already in Australia only.

If you have made an appointment for a physical examination and paid the physical examination fee, but have not yet undergone a physical examination, the relevant department will notify the applicant that the appointment will be cancelled and the fee will be refunded.

However, if the applicant has completed the physical examination, even if the fee cannot be refunded within the scope of exempting the physical examination requirements, the Immigration Bureau will conduct the trial in accordance with the usual way.

This arrangement is only applicable to applicants of the following visas, and only applies to the situation where they are already in Australia:

At the same time, the Immigration Bureau also stated that this is only a temporary measure, targeting applications that have been submitted to the Immigration Bureau and new applications that have been submitted in Australia. In early 2023, this provision will be reviewed.

It should be noted that not all the above visa applicants who are already in Australia will receive exemptions from the physical examination requirements. There are several types of temporary visa applicants in Australia still need to undergo a physical examination. The specific situation is as follows:

1) Apply for medical services, temporary protection visas or other temporary residence visas

2) It is expected to incur medical expenses or require medical treatment

3) Plan to engage in/or become a doctor, dentist, nurse or nursing related work

4) Will enter a hospital, nursing facility for the elderly or disabled (if tuberculosis Higher risk)

5) is pregnant and plans to give birth in Australia and will work or receive training in child care centers in Australia;

7) is over 75 years old (if you apply for a visitor visa)

8) has had family contact with tuberculosis patients
