As a result of the increase in international immigration, Australia's population has risen to its highest level in two years.
According to the statistics released by the government on Wednesday, the number of residents in Australia has risen to its highest level in nearly two years due to the recovery of international immigration.
According to information released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), as of March 2022, Australia's total population was 25,912,614.
Since March 2021, this number reflects an increase of about 239,800 people, accounting for 0.9% of the total population.
Since September 2020, this number represents Australia's highest annual population growth rate in one year.
In contrast, despite the strict border controls implemented by Covid-19, the population grew by 0.15% in the year ended March 2021.
Of the 239,800 new population, net overseas immigration (NOM) accounts for 109,600 new population, equivalent to 45.7% of the total.
According to a statement released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), Director of the Bureau of Demographics Beidar Cho said, "After two years of low population growth or no population growth, overseas immigration has once again become an important contributor to Australia's population growth, accounting for almost half of Australia's population growth."
The number of people arriving in Australia as immigrants increased by 183% from the previous year to 320,000, which has driven the country's net overseas immigration to the country.
Nevertheless, the number of net immigrants entering the country is still lower than the pre-epidemic level, ranging from 238,000 to 260,000.
