The Canadian Ministry of Immigration Refugees and Citizens IRCC stated that the immigration law does not prohibit multiple applications, but will not refund the paid processing fees. There are over 100 economic immigration programs to choose from, and it is possible to qualify for multiple Canadian immigration programs. So, this begs the question, can you apply for multiple at the same time?
Maybe you are eligible for Express Entry, but you don't necessarily want to pray for the Invitation to Apply (ITA), and the Provincial Nomination Program (PNP) looks more interesting—even if it could be a longer process. Can both be applied?
According to the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), you can apply for two applications at the same time, but you may have to withdraw one application before you can make a decision on the other—and you won't receive any refund of the paid processing fee.
In an email statement to CIC News, the IRCC wrote:
The Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and the Regulations do not prohibit multiple applications in economic flows. However, before completing one of the applications, the immigration officer will inform the applicant that the other applications must be withdrawn.
In addition, although multiple applications can be submitted, the applicant must also note that once processing begins, the processing fee paid for other applications will not be refunded.
You cannot have multiple Express Entry files
Canadian Immigration Law does not allow you to have multiple files at once. The IRCC website says having multiple profiles won’t give you a better chance of being invited, nor will you get invited by another project.
However, you can include your spouse or common law cohabitation partner in your express entry application. Each application through Express Entry has a primary applicant (PA) who receives a comprehensive ranking system (CRS) score. PA can add spouse and dependent children to the application.
When applying as a couple, only one partner can be a PA. As long as both parties are eligible for at least one Express Entry-managed program, the couple can choose which partner is a PA. This rule is important because one partner may have a higher CRS score than the other.
Having personal information in the Express Entry pool does not guarantee that you will receive an ITA. If your CRS score reaches the minimum dividing line for a given fast lane draw, you may receive an ITA.
