Recently, the Ministry of Information and Social Development of Kazakhstan released the "Development Outline of the Kazakhstan National Harmony Congress to 2026." This document publishes the statistics of Kazakhstan’s population and ethnic ratio from to the beginning of 2022.
data shows that as of January 1, 2022, the total population of Kazakhstan was 19.122 million.
Statistics show that between 2018 and 2021, Kazakhstan’s population has grown significantly, with the population growth reaching 2.6% in the past three years.
The level of population aging in Kazakhstan has declined
After five consecutive years of growth, the level of population aging in Kazakhstan has begun to show a downward trend. In recent years, the proportion of the elderly population in the total population has declined slightly.
Among the population of Kazakhstan, the ratio of children under 15 years old to elderly people over 65 years old reached a minimum value around 2014 and 2015, that is, there are 25.7 elderly people for every 100 children in the population.
In the following five years, this number gradually increased, reaching 26.7 elderly people per 100 children in 2020.
However, in 2021, this data has declined. The data for that year was 26.6 elderly people for every 100 children.
Among the regions of Kazakhstan, the regions with the lowest level of population aging (ratio of children to elderly) are Turkestan Oblast (100:12.7) and Mangistau Oblast (100:13).
The situation in northern Kazakhstan is completely opposite. For example, in North Kazakhstan, the ratio of children to elderly reached 100:62.9, in Kostaney Oblast it was 100:58.2, and in East Kazakhstan it was 100:50.9.
In other words, in the northernmost region of Kazakhstan, for every 100 children under the age of 15, there are 63 elderly people over the age of 65.
At the same time, urban areas are aging at a higher level than rural areas. In Kazakhstan, the ratio of children to elderly people in rural areas is 100:23.9, while in urban areas it is 100:28.7.
However, the aging index in rural areas has maintained an increasing trend for 6 years. On the contrary, the aging level in cities has been gradually and slowly declining. The gap between the two is getting closer.
Almaty The population has increased by 500,000 in the past 10 years
The Almaty City Development Center announced the urban population growth data in the past 10 years on the 28th.
Data shows that the population of Almaty has increased by more than 500,000 people in the past 10 years, and the load on urban social, transportation and other infrastructure has increased significantly.
According to statistics, the immigrant population accounts for 60% of the city's total population growth. Among them, highly educated talents accounted for 30% in 2012, while it will be more than 60% in 2021.
