On October 12, a reporter from Nandu learned that recently, the scientific research team of Guangdong Zijin Baixi Provincial Nature Reserve Management Office monitored wild Chinese pangolin in Jiuhe Town, Zijin County, Heyuan City through the infrared camera installed.
According to the image data, this Chinese pangolin quickly walked through the infrared camera recognition area toward the foot of the mountain at 4 a.m. The scientific research team of the reserve speculated that the wild Chinese pangolin is already an adult individual, and going out may be to find water sources or defecate after foraging, and will return to the cave soon. Staff from the management office of
Protection Area told Nandu reporters that this is the second wild Chinese pangolin activity area found in Zijin County after monitoring the Chinese pangolin population in Longwo Town, Zijin County in 2020.
According to reports, Chinese pangolins are a national first-class protected wildlife. They are the only existing mammal with long scales and teeth. When they are foraging, they stick food with their long tongue and then directly send it to their stomachs. Its vision is basically degraded, and its sense of smell is particularly sensitive. It mainly feeds on termites, ants, , likes heat, can climb trees, hikes at night, and generally lives in places with less human interference, rich food and water sources, and dense shrubs and grass. When in danger, the body will curl up and resist the attack with hard scales. Pangolin has low fertility and generally only produces one baby every year, and only one baby per baby.
