Nandu reporters learned from the Guangzhou Nature Observation Association that recently, volunteers of the association recorded more than 100 birds of prey on Baiyun Mountain in Guangzhou, and three batches, a total of 55 national second-level key protected wild animals, black crowned kennel , flew over Longhugang, Baiyun Mountain. This also proves that Guangzhou Baiyun Mountain is an important node in the migration route of birds of prey.
On October 24, the Guangzhou Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area Management Bureau told Nandu reporters that they will protect the ecological environment of Baiyun Mountain and maintain the biodiversity of so as to provide corresponding food to migrating birds. Since August, the Administration has begun a field investigation of the animal and plant protection biodiversity conservation monitoring project in Baiyun Mountain Scenic Spots. The entire project will continue until the end of 2023. The work includes surveys on animal and plant resources in Baiyun Mountain, surveys on vegetation types, surveys on follow-up resources of ancient trees and famous trees and ancient trees and technical guidance on the restoration of ancient trees, and measures and suggestions for the protection and utilization of animal and plant resources in Baiyun Mountain.

Important node of the migration route of raptors
On October 18, a reporter from Nandu learned from the Guangzhou Nature Observation Association that recently, volunteers of the association recorded more than 100 birds of prey on Baiyun Mountain in Guangzhou, and three batches, a total of 55 national second-level key protected wild animals, Black Crown Kowloon Falcon, flew over Longhu Hill, Baiyun Mountain. This also proves that Guangzhou Baiyun Mountain is an important node in the migration route of birds of prey.
Zhen Jun, Secretary-General of Guangzhou Nature Observation Association and head of this observation volunteer activity, told Nandu reporters that Baiyun Mountain is one of the important bird watching locations in Guangzhou, and the association conducts bird monitoring here all year round. Starting from 2021, association members will conduct special monitoring of predatory or scavenging birds such as eagles, turtles, eagles, falcons, harriers, owls, and owls flying across Baiyun Mountain.
On October 13, from 8:28 to 16:09, volunteers from the association recorded 101 birds of prey on Baiyun Mountain, including at least 12 species such as snake eagle , Japanese pine sparrow eagle, ordinary turtle, wings , and black crowned jujube falcon. After statistics, the association members also found that three batches of 55 national second-level key protected wild animals, Black Crown Falcon, have recently flew over the Dragon and Tiger Hill of Baiyun Mountain, which also proves that Guangzhou Baiyun Mountain is an important node in the migration route of raptors.
According to observations by members of the association, these raptors can be divided into three categories according to their different living habits. Among them, crested eagle , snake eagle, etc. are local resident birds, living in Baiyun Mountain every day; in winter, migratory birds such as ordinary hunchback will fly to Guangzhou from cold areas to overwinter and survive in Baiyun Mountain; while hirlpools such as crested eagle and black-crowned hordes pass by Baiyun Mountain during migration, and sometimes choose to stay in Baiyun Mountain for a short rest and then set off again.
According to Xinhua News Agency , raptors are the top predators in nature, at the top of the natural ecological food chain, and are an important environmental indicator species. Their appearance often means that the biological chain in this area is complete.
Zhen Jun also told Nandu reporters that in the association's years of observation of Baiyun Mountain, they have recorded about 200 species of wild birds, including the more common starling , thrush , magpies , family swallow , and the more beautiful Guangdong bird white squid , green-winged golden dove, white-breasted jade , blue-throated bee tiger, black-browed woodpecker, fairy-eight-colored thrush, red mountain pepper bird, longevity belt, purple longevity belt, and some relatively rare bird species, such as gray-throated needle-tailed swift.
carries out animal and plant biodiversity protection monitoring project
On October 24, the Guangzhou Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area Management Bureau (hereinafter referred to as the "Administrative Bureau") told reporters from Nandu that it will protect the habitat of migratory birds, including midway stops and wintering areas; secondly, protect migratory bird migration corridors, and illegal hunting of birds is strictly prohibited in these places; through strengthening publicity and education, citizens' attention and awareness of protection for migratory birds are increased. By cognizing the importance of protecting migratory birds, we will continue to implement ecological civilization construction; at the same time, we must protect the ecological environment of Baiyun Mountain and maintain biodiversity in order to provide corresponding food to migrating birds.
The administration also reminds citizens that birds need to consume a lot of energy to migrate, and there may be a stop in the middle, and some wild birds may even be injured or exhausted. If you find such birds, you should contact the local wildlife rescue center immediately. At the same time, do not buy wild animals of illegal origin, and do not buy wild animals for private release.
It is reported that since August, Baiyun Mountain Scenic Spot has carried out field investigations on the conservation and monitoring project of animal and plant biodiversity. According to the Administration Bureau, the entire project will continue until the end of 2023. The work includes surveys on animal and plant resources in Baiyun Mountain, vegetation type surveys, follow-up resource surveys on famous ancient trees and ancient trees and technical guidance on the restoration of ancient trees, and put forward measures and suggestions on the protection and utilization of animal and plant resources in Baiyun Mountain. By carrying out scientific and systematic animal and plant diversity protection monitoring, we can master the background of animal and plant resources in Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area; scientifically evaluate the current status of animal and plant resources in Baiyun Mountain; further strengthen the protection of wild animal and plant resources; and provide a scientific basis for effective protection, utilization and scientific management of wild animal and plant resources.
Management Bureau explained to Nandu reporters that the last survey of Baiyun Mountain animal and plant resources was conducted in 2010. At that time, Baiyun Mountain found that there were quite a variety of vegetation species, including 1,054 plants, belonging to 168 families and 613 genera, including 23 rare and endangered plants at the national and provincial levels, such as lemon , tourist trees, golden retrievers, etc. There are 185 species of insects, 43 species of amphibian reptiles, 105 species of birds, and 16 species of animals, including 16 species of national and provincial key protected wild animals.
More than ten years have passed, and the animal and plant varieties in Baiyun Mountain will change to certain extent. The monitoring project for animal and plant biodiversity conservation is also to grasp the latest resource status.
At the same time, in order to protect the animal and plant resources of Baiyun Mountain, the Baiyun Mountain Scenic Spot has strengthened the maintenance of existing plants and protected existing big trees; selected key areas for greening and improved greening, and strived to create a green landscape in Baiyun Mountain with "flowers in all seasons and scenery in all seasons", creating and protecting conditions and places suitable for wild animals to live in order to attract more wild animals to settle down in Baiyun Mountain; creating an ecological corridor of water birds, and new plants with flowering and fruiting plants such as fallen fir , water pomelo, golden panda, and fake apples; artificially release some wild animals to enrich the animal species of Baiyun Mountain.
