Recently, a spider biology research team at Jinggangshan University of Jiangxi discovered a new species of Iban spider. In the past, this kind of spider has only been found abroad. In order to commemorate this new discovery, the research team named this new species after the Jiangxi Province's other name "Gan" and was called "Gan Yiban Spider".

Liu Keke, the main member of the Spider Biology Research Team of Jinggangshan University, told reporters that the first discovery of Iban spider in the world was on the Borneo Island in Southeast Asia, which was established in 2014 by Dr. Benjamin of Sri Lanka. Before this, only one Iban spider was found in the world. In July 2020, Liu Keke led his team members to collect Iban spiders in Jinggangshan National Nature Reserve for the first time.
Associate Professor Liu Keke, School of Life Sciences, Jinggangshan University: We were shocked when we discovered it, because it is usually in the tropics, and this is the first time we discovered it on Jinggangshan. As we all know, Jinggangshan belongs to the subtropical region, and it is very rare to find it in the subtropical region. This means that this area, for example, Jinggangshan Nature Reserve, is partly derived from tropical animals. In terms of animal habitat, it makes a lot of sense, indicating that this place has a role similar to the tropical and subtropical watershed.
This species is green and gray-black-brown all over, and mainly inhabits low shrubs or trees. It has a body length of 7 mm to 10 mm, and feeds on moths, bees, etc. After subsequent continuous tracking and research, it was determined that the species discovered by Liu Keke's team was a new species of Iban spider. Liu Keke and Li Shuqiang, a researcher at the Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, named the new species after the abbreviation of Jiangxi Province "Gan".
Associate Professor, School of Life Sciences, Jinggangshan University: This is also a new species. Before we discovered it, it has not been discovered elsewhere, so we want its name to be more grand, which is named after the Jiangxi alias "Gan" and named it "Gan Yiban Spider".
On September 29, Liu Keke published the team's discovery in the journal Biodiversity Data. This discovery not only adds a new member to the spider-genus taxa recorded in China, but also increases the species of crab spider family recorded in China to 312.
