"Six Unidentified" takin appeared in Gahai Scenic Area, Gansu Province

On September 22, a herder in Gahai Township, Luqu County, Gannan Prefecture, discovered a special "guest" who was relatively large in shape and peculiar in appearance, resembling a cow, a sheep, and a horse. What is this animal that the locals have never seen before? After verification by experts from Gahaizecha National Nature Reserve in Gansu, this is a national first-class protected animal takin , also called takin, commonly known as " ". This is the first time a protected area has monitored a new record within its jurisdiction, which is really rare.

Takin is a typical alpine species, often inhabiting alpine forests and meadows above 2500 meters. They live in groups, each group of about 20 to 30, up to 50 Head, migrate to the rocky area in the coniferous forest below 2500 meters in winter. The body is thick, and both males and females have short horns. This is a large bovid herbivore distributed in dense forest areas in the eastern foothills of the Himalayas. Due to the different origins, the coat color gradually becomes lighter from south to north. It is divided into 4 subspecies: Gaoligong Takin, Bhutan Takin, , Sichuan Takin , Qinling Takin , all produced in China.
