Since the collapse of ideas and beliefs by Lee Teng-hui and Chen Shui-bian at the end of the last century, Taiwan's military has quickly lost its military spirit and its combat effectiveness has plummeted. Some elderly generals who upheld traditional Chinese theories also left the army as time went by, and some began to travel between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait for the cause of national reunification. Led by Taiwan's 100-year-old retired "admiral" Xu Linong , a group of veteran generals formed the "New Alliance" to support cross-strait reunification. Taiwan's retired generals such as Wu Sihuai, Wang Wenxie, and Xia Yingzhou have all gone to the mainland to participate in activities. They have also become a thorn in the side and flesh of the Democratic Progressive Party's Taiwan independence authorities, who are worried that they will affect the morale of the people on the island. Now Tsai Ing-wen, Su Zhenchang and others have targeted retired general Xia Yingzhou and want to impose sanctions on him for his words and deeds in support of reunification. What the specific situation is, let me tell you slowly.
Xia Yingzhou believes that "the Taiwan Strait is China's territory"
What is the crime in supporting cross-strait reunification?
Although the Taiwanese military did not adhere to the same philosophy as the mainland during the Chiang Kai-shek era, it strongly agreed with the "One China" concept. What they want most is to return to the mainland one day, so they are also very disgusted with the Taiwan independence and separatist forces. After Lee Teng-hui came to power, he began to support Taiwan independence overtly and covertly, which caused a large number of former KMT officials to leave. The atmosphere in the military was also messed up by Lee Teng-hui and later Chen Shui-bian, which also caused a group of senior military officers headed by Hao Baicun, Xu Linong and others to break with Lee Teng-hui. Hao Baicun was humiliated by Lee Teng-hui in 1994 using the newly emerged Democratic Progressive Party, and reluctantly resigned as the head of the administrative department. Before stepping down, the scene of him raising his hands and shouting "Down with Taiwan Independence" still impresses many people. As a general personally promoted by Li Tenghui, Xia Yingzhou's mentality has also undergone a major change.
Hao Baicun vs. Chen Shui-bian
Xia Yingzhou was born in Zhucheng County, Shandong Province in 1939, which was a turbulent era in China. The iron hoofs of the Japanese invasion continued to tear apart the fertile soil of China, and the people were displaced from their homes.. Xia Yingzhou also traveled around with his parents and came to Taiwan when he was a child. Xia Yingzhou entered the 43rd phase of the Air Force Military Academy as an adult and graduated in 1962. Since then, he has embarked on a military career. During the period when Taiwan was in power between Chiang Kai-shek and Chiang Kai-shek, Taiwan attached great importance to the development of its air force. Especially after the introduction of American high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft, the status of the air force was completely superior to that of other services. Promotions, funding, equipment, and treatment are all the most generous among Taiwan's troops. As soon as he graduated from the Air Force Officer School, Xia Yingzhou served as the major commander of the 7th Squadron, 3rd Group, 3rd Flying Wing of the Air Force. Soon, he also got the opportunity to study at the War College of the Armed Forces University. In 1990, Xia Yingzhou served as the principal of the Air Force Military Academy and held the rank of "lieutenant general". In December 1996, Xia Yingzhou was promoted to "Deputy Chief of General Staff" and received the military rank of "Second General". This was already one of the highest military ranks among active military officers in Taiwan at that time, second only to "First Class General". At that time, Xia Yingzhou could be said to have a prosperous official career and a high and powerful position. The person who promoted him twice was Lee Teng-hui, but he and Lee Teng-hui had completely different understandings of the concepts of family and country.
Xia Yingzhou was born in the military.
In 2000, Taiwan began to strengthen the education construction within the military. After integrating the original military universities, Xia Yingzhou was handed over to serve as the first president. At that time, Taiwan island had already seen a change of political parties, and Chen Shui-bian came to power. Xia Yingzhou will soon face the issue of being discharged from the army, so he still worked at his post for three years. In 2003, he ended his military career of more than 40 years and returned home. He was naturally very dissatisfied with the DPP's perverse actions, so he joined the New Alliance formed by veteran general Xu Linong. The New Alliance was founded in 1996. Its purpose was to oppose Lee Teng-hui's monopoly of power and the "Taiwan independence conspiracy."At its establishment meeting, Li Huan, Hao Baicun, Liang Surong, Jiang Weiguo and other senior figures in the Kuomintang were all present to express their support. In 2010, General Xu Linong launched the "Zhongshan Huangpu Cross-Strait Sentiment" forum and led many senior retired generals such as Xia Yingzhou to the mainland. Since that period, the level of exchanges between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait has become higher and higher, and the exchanges between the two sides have become more frequent.

But when Tsai Ing-wen of the Democratic Progressive Party came to power, everything changed dramatically. Senior retired generals who went to the mainland were slapped with numerous big labels, from "leaking secrets" to "collaborating with the enemy." In November 2016, Xia Yingzhou and others went to the mainland to participate in the 6th "Zhongshan Huangpu Cross-Strait Sentiment". They were immediately publicly insulted by former legislative representative Yao Liming , literary and historical writer Guan Renjian and others, with harsh words like Qiu Yu. On November 14, 2016, Taiwan's legislative body proposed a special bill to ban these retired generals from coming to the mainland, threatening to confiscate their pensions and cancel their military ranks, honors and medals. Although the case was high-profile and aggressive at the time, there was no substantial development in the follow-up. The only manifestation was that "Lieutenant General" Wu Sihuai, who had followed General Xia Yingzhou and others to the mainland to attend a meeting, was attacked by the Green Camp under the pretext. That was in the 2020 election of public opinion representatives in Taiwan's legislative body. Wu Sihuai was on the Kuomintang's recommendation list. This led to an all-out campaign by the Democratic Progressive Party, with the excuse that Wu Sihuai had gone to the mainland for a meeting. They hope to use this to put pressure on the top leaders of the Kuomintang to cancel Wu Sihuai's quota. But Wu Dunyi, then chairman of the Kuomintang, resisted the pressure and allowed the retired general with a military background to enter Taiwan's legislative body.

However, as the situation on both sides of the Taiwan Strait has become increasingly tense, the atmosphere has also changed. As the former principal of the Air Force Academy in Taiwan, Xia Yingzhou said that when the PLA fighter planes appear in the southwestern airspace of Taiwan Island, they are on their own land and have full rights to patrol the Taiwan Strait. This statement immediately triggered a fierce reaction on the island. Su Zhenchang, the head of the administrative agency, even shouted "Severe punishment and legal action" threats. It has never happened before that Su Zhenchang said something so categorically. Perhaps the most fundamental reason is that Su Zhenchang is already on the list of Taiwan independence die-hards. Firstly, he wanted to vent his personal anger, and secondly, he wanted to further trigger the "chilling effect", so that politicians and military personnel on the island would not dare to have any contact with the mainland. At the same time, they should be used as "hostages" in their hands to counter the mainland's measures to punish Taiwan independence. These former military retired generals still need to receive pensions to live, and the payment of pensions is in the hands of the Taiwan independence authority of the Democratic Progressive Party. This undoubtedly seizes the lifeblood of these retired generals. Therefore, as long as the DPP is still in power, these "hostages" will be in their hands for a long time and become a bargaining chip with the mainland.
Su Zhenchang is anxious.
The trend in Taiwan has begun to change, and Taiwan independence is becoming more and more crazy.
Since the release of the list of "die-hard Taiwan independence elements", the anxiety of Su Zhenchang and others and the financial backers behind them has become very obvious. Su Zhenchang, who has always been aggressive towards the mainland, said for the first time, "We will not attack the mainland, and we hope that the mainland will not attack us." Such an obviously soft attitude should be regarded as a delaying measure. has softened its external attitude and stepped up internal liquidation. The administration, judiciary, prosecutors, and police all took action, and even went so far as to frame people for crimes entirely from an ideological point of view. In the half month since the list was released, Taiwan has made a lot of small moves. On the one hand, Taiwan has established a combat formation of F16V fighter jets, and Tsai Ing-wen personally came to review it. In addition, the Taiwan Navy's self-built submarine is about to install the " keel ". This work has also been a highlight after Tsai Ing-wen came to power, and a large amount of budget has been invested. Moreover, the planned crackdown on and unification of in Taiwan has also begun.
F16V team formed
On December 18, 2017, the Taiwan police suddenly broke into the homes of Wang Bingzhong, Hou Hanting, and Lin Mingzheng, the backbone of the New Party's youth. At that time, the police were using the banner of Taiwan's "Security Law" and therefore searched the three people's homes. Wang Bingzhong and others were also taken away by the "Investigation Bureau" afterwards. Although they went there as "witnesses", the police's attitude towards them was very rough. After that, Wang Bingzhong and his son, Lin Mingzheng, and Hou Hanting were charged with "unfounded" charges and restricted from leaving Taiwan. Once the case was reviewed, it took four years. Not long ago, the results of the first trial came out and Wang Bingzhong and others were acquitted, but they were still restricted from leaving Taiwan. Now, the Taiwanese prosecutors have filed an appeal and even asked officials from the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Mainland China to go to the Taiwanese court to testify for these people in order to clear their grievances. This is obviously the Taiwan authorities forcibly persecuting and framing them, and then using despicable means to create difficulties for them. In the name of the epidemic, the Taiwan authorities have cut off official channels for cross-strait communication. A few days ago, the travel agency run by Mr. Zhang Wei, the son of Mr. Zhang Anle, the president of the Unification Promotion Party, Mr. Zhang Anle, was immediately falsely accused and prosecuted because he had guided mainland officials to come to Taiwan. The Taiwanese independence forces are worried that once the steps towards reunification really begin, the unification forces on the island may cooperate with the People's Liberation Army inside and outside, so they do everything they can to fight against them, which is close to a state of madness.
Wang Bingzhong was persecuted back then
The political situation on the island is probably already "stormy and stormy", and it is on the eve of intense turmoil. The mainland has also begun to impose substantial sanctions against Taiwan independence financiers and Taiwan independence diehards, as well as European countries that support Taiwan independence and covertly support Taiwan. This all means that our current attitude is definitely not a bluff. We have the means, the means, and the determination and perseverance to punish Taiwan independence. Whether they are retired generals of the Kuomintang, youth representatives of the New Party, or private figures like Mr. Zhang Wei, as long as they support the reunification of the motherland, they should receive support and protection from the mainland. In particular, we must guard against the Taiwan independence authorities taking desperate measures to restore the white terror of the Kuomintang martial law period, which would threaten the lives of pro-unitarian people on the island. The road to the reunification of the motherland is full of difficulties and obstacles, but I believe the future is bright. As long as both sides of the Taiwan Strait work together, they will surely be able to thwart the plot of the Taiwan independence authorities and usher in the true reunification of the country. Let us wait and see how the situation in the Taiwan Strait develops in the future.
