Taiwan authorities leader Tsai Ing-wen held a high-level meeting on Taiwan's security on the 27th, and decided that starting from January 1, 2024, for men born after January 1, 2005, the compulsory service period will be changed from 4 months to 1 year, and the salary will be increased accordingly. Jiang Qichen, a public opinion representative of the Kuomintang who served in the 101st Amphibious Reconnaissance Battalion of the Taiwan Army (commonly known as "Sea Dragon Frog Soldiers"), pointed out that he asked Qiu Guozheng, director of the defense department of the Taiwan authorities, how the military service was extended to one year. How was this date calculated? Qiu bluntly said that this was because there was no need to be stuck in Taiwan's legislative body, no need to amend the "law" and it was the fastest. This statement made him dumbfounded and criticized the DPP authorities for extremely hasty policy decisions.

Jiang Qichen said on the island's political commentary program "Common People's Head" on the 29th that the most important key behind the extension of military service is what is the entire defense strategic goal of the DPP authorities? Is it time to switch from "deterrence" to "street fighting"? During Ma Ying-jeou's time, it was called "effective deterrence strategy", while Tsai Ing-wen called it "layered deterrence strategy" when she first took office. Both goals are "deterrence", that is, not to allow the enemy to take a step beyond the limit, so that the enemy does not dare to attack rashly because of the cost.

Jiang Qichen said bluntly that the strategic goal of the DPP authorities is obviously that now everyone can only prepare for "street fighting", also known as "hand-to-hand combat". This is really bad. Such a defense strategy is simply wrong, because it is equivalent to asking everyone to directly sacrifice, which is contrary to our past concepts. We should calculate how much of our overall military strength we need, and how much of it can be provided by recruiting troops? If it is not enough, how far should it be dealt with by conscription or other means? Rather than simply changing the service period from 4 months to 1 year.

Not only that, Jiang Qichen even revealed that on the 28th, he asked Qiu Guozheng why the service period was changed from 4 months to 1 year? How is the date 1 year calculated? Qiu directly said to the Kuomintang caucus: "Because there is no need to amend the law for one year, and there is no need to waste time, because there are two in the 'military service law', one is four months of training, and the other is one year of compulsory service, so resuming compulsory service is the fastest, and there is no need to be stuck in your "Taiwan Region Legislative Body!" Jiang criticized, which shows how sloppy the DPP authorities are. They have not calculated the actual force requirements, but only care about "no need to amend the law, the fastest". They only think about how to avoid going through the Taiwan Region Legislative Body. That does not require two years of preparation, two days is enough. (Source: Taiwan's "China News Network")
