The military service reform that has been controversial in Taiwan has finally been "officially announced." A few days ago, Taiwanese leader Tsai Ing-wen announced that would solve the shortage of troops on the island by extending the duration of military service. Taking this opportunity, Tsai Ing-wen began to incite "resistance to China and Taiwan" sentiments on the island. Not only did she "blame" the responsibility on the mainland, she also compared the Taiwan issue with the Ukrainian issue.

Tsai Ing-wen "officially announced" military service reform, which will be extended to one year in April
A few days ago, Taiwanese authority leader Tsai Ing-wen held a meeting and officially announced that military service reform will be carried out. Tsai Ing-wen said that Taiwan will extend the previous four-month military service period for young men to one year starting from 2024, and will adjust the salary of compulsory soldiers from the previous NT$6,510 to NT$20,320, an increase of more than three times.
According to Taiwanese media reports, Taiwan’s current main battle force is experiencing serious personnel loss. Nearly 90,000 of the troops are non-commissioned officers, while the number of soldiers is only 45,000. The ratio is seriously imbalanced. Before adjusting the military service system, the Taiwan authorities also tried to recruit military service by relaxing restrictions. As a result, some soldiers with poor physical conditions were recruited, and ultimately failed to solve the problem of military personnel shortage.

Now that he is out of power, the authorities have come up with a way to solve this problem by extending the military service period. However, according to the Taiwanese military, most of the men on the island who are over 18 years old will choose to continue to go to school. If the quota of alternative service is deducted, the number of troops that can be recruited every year is less than 10,000.
And after these young people began to serve in the military, they were unable to serve in the highly demanding military services. They could only "work as foreigners" in some insignificant positions every day, and then leave immediately when the time was up. This system was even ridiculed as "easier than attending summer camp." Therefore, there are many doubts about the training of the Taiwan authorities in the military. Therefore, this move by the Taiwan authorities cannot solve the problem at its root. It can only increase the time of " grinding foreign workers " in vain.
Tsai Ing-wen "passes the blame" to the mainland
In fact, the Taiwan authorities' remarks that they want to extend the military service period have long been spread, but the Taiwan authorities have been looking for the right time to announce this matter. Currently, the Democratic Progressive Party suffered a disastrous defeat in the "nine-in-one" election , and the extension of military service has become a hot potato in the hands of the Democratic Progressive Party. Although it is worried that it will arouse public revolt, in the face of pressure from the United States, the Taiwan authorities have no choice but to push forward.
When US officials "crossed Taiwan" in July this year, they promoted the idea of "all men and women are soldiers" on the island in an attempt to "Ukrainize" Taiwan. Subsequently, the United States also introduced relevant bills to collude with the Taiwanese authorities on the military. However, the Taiwan authorities did not dare to say "no" in the face of the US's requests for military expansion, expansion, and increase in defense budget.
In addition, what is even more interesting is that the military service system in Taiwan was far longer than four months earlier. In order to win the votes of young people in the election, politicians in Taiwan used the military service period as a bargaining chip. This manipulation can be said to reap the consequences.
Even so, at this press conference, Tsai Ing-wen also blamed the mainland. claimed that "the current coercion situation in the mainland is obvious, and only good preparation for war is enough to avoid war." She also compared the Taiwan issue with the Ukrainian issue, saying that "the will of the Ukrainian people to protect their homeland is moving", trying to persuade Taiwanese youth to serve.
(Taiwan military training)
People on the island shouted to Tsai Ing-wen: It is difficult to have peace while you are in office.
People on the island did not buy Tsai Ing-wen's behavior of inciting "resistance to China and Taiwan" on the island. According to polls in Taiwan, 175% of the people believe that the Taiwan authorities are simply unable to maintain the security of Taiwan. Even if it is extended to one year, it is just a waste of time. Even many young people directly left messages on Tsai Ing-wen's social media saying: "It's difficult to be safe when you are in office" .
In addition, the Taiwan authorities should also understand that the Taiwan issue is completely different from the Ukraine issue in nature. The Taiwan region is an inalienable part of our country. Attempts to incite "separatist" sentiments on Chinese territory will not succeed.
Regarding the Taiwan authorities' so-called "responding to the threat from the mainland," our Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the majority of Taiwan compatriots understand the righteousness and will not serve as cannon fodder for "Taiwan independence forces."
